Good Examples of the Enchanter in books / TV / Movies

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey all,

I am a huge fan of the enchanter role in fantasy/fiction. Not the guy who makes magical weapons but the guy/gal who bends minds, dominates wills, bluffs, uses diplomacy and generally convinces people to do what they want.

I am always looking for examples of this type of character in books/tv/movies etc.

So post any examples you may know of.

Tim the Enchanter. But who is actually an evoker.

If you don't treat the wizards as celestials, Saruman would be a classic enchanter.

Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid would be perfect as a telepath psion, but if you use only wizards, he would be an enchanter, no doubt.

You want to watch Excalibur (1981), with Nicol Williamson in the role of Merlin.

Unforgettable.

Liberty's Edge

Ben Kenobi in Star Wars IV, Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi

Palpatine

Vampires in Vampire Diaries (especially Damon Salvatore)

Alphas (forget the name of the character, but her ability was to do just that... sometimes not realizing she was doing it)

Professor Charles Xavier (naturally)

And on a lower-key, watch Hustle or White Collar. Yeah, these are normal people. But with their Hollywood-level bluff skills, they might as well be enchanters.

Obiwan Kenobi is a classic example. In fact, in the Rise of The Empire movies, he's casual enough in it's use, to border on the abusive.

Steven Strange, as Master of the Mystic Arts, also masters this as well. That and every telepathic mutant in the Marvel Universe.

Most magicians who play the "Enchanter" role, don't do this as their be all and end all, usually just as a by-product of being awesome magicians.

In radio, the pregenitor of this trope would be The Shadow.
