So, hit the FLGS after getting the SMS that the Ultimate Campaign book had arrived... probably delayed due to flooding. Of course, could hardly wait to get home and dive in. So my daughter sees the section on character background, and grabs her dice, eager to give 'em a throw. Being a good Dad, I'm happy to oblige.
So we get to "Circumstances of Birth" and she rolls... Reincarnated. Huh.
ok, so she's not middle class, not a noble or a peasant, but then what?
just kind of popped out of nowhere?
How do you run with this?

The background generator doesn't define everything, some things are still up to the person rolling. If you get a result that doesn't include any additional details, I would assume that the designers wanted you to take what you get and build on that as you see fit. She should take the reincarnated birth and come up with a story as to why she was born into whatever family and social class she was born into.
If you want to keep it somewhat random or she has trouble coming up with that aspect of the background I would have her roll 1d8, multiply the result by ten, then consult the table again to determine the social class that she was born into. On an 8 she chooses from the three.

Ok, seems fair enough.
fwiw, it was a *great* opportunity to talk with my kid about the concept of reincarnation, what the word itself literally means, etc., so it became quite the chance for teaching/ learning.
Most of what you suggested we already quasi did, as she rolled "merchants" for her parents' profession, so we kind of took it from there and moved on.
*still thinking*
