I just joined PFS within the last week and hoping to start play with my character at Paizocon.
What books should I bring? My character is a Desert Elf Bladebound Kensai Magus, so CRB, UM, UC and APG covers all racial and class abilities. I also have my character made in Herolab with the PFS legal checkmarks on.
Would I need all the books or just copies of the pages for the additional information? Is Herolab with the PFS compliant marks on a legal source substitute? Finally, is the Pathfinder PRD a legal source substitute for the hardcopy books or photocopies?
I appreciate the patience and any assistance/advice you can offer!
Thanks

At a minimum, you would need copies of the specific information from your hardcopy (photocopies are okay per apost frmo Mike Brock), or printed out pages with your email watermark for the relevant rules material.
HeroLab, while it is a useful tool, is not a substitute for owning the actual Paizo source materuial.
The Paizo Pathfinder PRD is not a legal rules source substitute, except for the specific instance of a GM preparing a scenraio to run.
Note that the source material is needed, not to prove you own it, but in order to have the unedited source material for the actual rules needed to run the PC. Also note thatm, if you have a pre-revision copy of the rules, you should also download and print the errata/update document for your version of the book to the latest version of the book.
Hope to see you at PaizoCon!

Kinevon is right - you need either a PDF watermarked copy of the specific rules or the book. Also, I don't know if this will help but you don't technically need the CRB - it's part of the core assumption. However, seeing as how often part of it comes up it's never a bad idea to have it on-hand.
While the PRD is not a legal source, it can usually tell you the legal source so you can purchase the correct book/PDF.
I look forward to seeing you at PaizoCon as well!

What I usually do is have all the pdfs available on my iPad, but I also print out pages from my pdfs describing specific things (things I think a judge might not be clear on or obscure spells, traits, etc), especially if they are from one of the smaller resources so I have them quickly at hand instead of having to search for them in the pdf. Each character has a section in my character binder after their character sheet with these printed out pages...

Enjoy PaizoCon. I'm sorry I can't go this year.
I do find that travelling with all those books can be heavy, so if you have any of them as a watermarked PDF, you might consider the relevant pages in hard copy only, or just load your PDFs onto the device that has Hero Lab. Much lighter!

Note: I woulod recommend the printouts for specific items, simply to help speed up play, unless your device is very fast.
Having the items with the PC both helps show you own the resource, but it also covers any questions generated by the item/feat/trait/spell/etc.

Awesome, thanks everyone! I have the watermarked PDFs, will just load them up on my laptop, =)
Remember to password protect it and turn off any form of file sharing if using the internet. It would suck to have someone copy all your PDFs and torrent them with your watermark on them.
