Playing up and rewards

Hi,

I´m quite new to PFS and I´m having problems to really understand how playing up and the reward system interacts.
Today I played Voices in the Void. We were a party of 2 lvl 4, 1 lvl 3 and me, lvl 2.
-> APL 3,25 so we played Subtier 3-4. As I played this up, do I get the rewards for Subtier 3-4 or just the subtier in the range of my character (1-2)? Do you always get the reward for the subtier you played or does it depend on your own lvl?

Thanks in advance!

Currently, as a player, you get the rewards for the subtier that you played at. In this case, you get Subtier 3-4's rewards.

As a GM, you get the rewards for the tier most appropriate to character level.

Hey, can I get a clarification for that, David? Do you mean to say that you get the reward for the tier most appropriate to the character level you apply it to?

IE, if I was GMing the OP's game, and running a Tier 3-4, would I get 1-2 rewards if applying it to a level 1 or 2, and 3-4 rewards if applying it to a level 3-4 character?

I -figured- that's what you meant, but thought I'd ask just so there's no confusion. =)

If you played it, you get the rewards for the tier you faced. So, if you are 1st level (or 7th level) in a tier 1-7 adventure, and faced the foes and encounters from the sub-tier 3-4, you get the rewards from the sub-tier 3-4.

As a GM, you will ALWAYS get the rewards for whatever sub-tier the character you are assigning credit to would qualify for. In other words, whatever level your character is, you get that sub-tier's rewards. It does not matter what sub-tier you GM'd. If your character falls between sub-tiers (i.e. 3rd level PC and you GM'd a tier 1-5) you round DOWN to determine what sub-tier's rewards you get.

The subtier for which a GM’s character receives credit depends on the character’s level. If a GM with a 1st-level rogue runs a Tier 1–5 scenario using Subtier 1–2, she takes a Subtier 1–2 Chronicle sheet for her 1st-level rogue. If she instead runs a Tier 1–5 scenario using Subtier 4–5, she still takes a Subtier 1–2 Chronicle sheet, as her PC clearly falls within the lower subtier.

...
Should a GM receive a Chronicle sheet that indicates her character is between subtiers (for example, if she runs a Tier 1–5 scenario with Subtiers 1–2 and 4–5 but has a 3rd-level character), she must always play down, taking a Chronicle sheet for the lower subtier.

Ouch. That kind of sucks. =/ But I suppose it's fair, since there's no real risk for the GM in those circumstances.

True. Also, consider that the PC is using NO consumables. At all.

Frankly, you should rarely have a character between sub-tiers that you are applying credit to. For instance:

Level 3 - only apply sub-tier 3-4 from scenarios that are tier 3-7 (or 1-7).
Level 5 - only apply sub-tier 4-5 from tier 1-5s or sub-tier 5-6 from tier 5-9s.
Level 7 - only apply sub-tier 6-7 from tier 3-7s (or 1-7s) or sub-tier 7-8 from tier 7-11s.

Level 9 becomes the only time you'll ever actually HAVE to "round down." But at those levels I never take GM credit, as I'd much rather play the character.

This is since the Dming the adventure you do not spend and resources. Otherwise DMing a ton of 1-7 adventures and applying 7th level credit will give you a very wealthly character.
