So my homebrew campaign consists of 4 PCs: a dwarf sword n' board fighter, a human oracle, a half-elf ranger, and a drow alchemist. They are currently level 5.
Some time ago, while they were adventuring in the forest, they saw a meteor streak down and smash into the nearby landscape. Upon examining the crater, they found an unconscious woman with a pair of charred stumps on her back within. This woman has amnesia and has since joined the party as a permanent NPC in the hopes of recovering her identity.
In reality, I was envisioning this woman to actually be a powerful Erinyes who was brought to the Material Plane by several good-aligned gods. They foresaw that this Erinyes would play an important role in the cosmos and as such attempted to interfere. Barred from converting her directly, these gods pooled their power together to strip her of all devil powers and abilities (hence she has just been functioning as a higher level human fighter for now) and memories in an effort to create a "blank slate". They then engineered for her to come into contact with the party, in the hopes that the party's actions would reflect upon this Erinyes and convert her indirectly.
This is what I had originally conceived, but I'm wondering if it is too cliche. At this point, the party is largely unaware of anything regarding this woman. All they know is what they initially saw and they suspect that she is some sort of outsider. The charred stumps on her back may cause the oracle (who has Planes knowledge) to be guessing somewhat, but they still know nothing of her backstory.
Anyway, I'm looking for possible input into crafting a major questline that would reveal this woman's past/true nature/affliction in a way that would be interesting for my PCs (who are all largely experienced players). Any suggestions or comments welcome, and happy to provide additional details if necessary.
