First-time GM?

Advice

The Pathfinder core rulebook is so daunting. How do I go about creating a simple, quick, and easy campaign for me and my friends to play? After that I'll go more and more complex from there. But I want to start off simple so I can get the hang of it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would say either go with an Adventure Path, or buy a few Pathfinder Society missions.

PFS missions I would then say have them all pick a faction, so they're working together or no faction to begin with, perhaps they're being recruited, so they are being tested.

Play using JUST the core rulebook, nothing else...(except the Bestiary of course)

There's always the trustworthy Beginner's box, with simplified rules and a ready-to-play adventure. It's probably the best choice for 1st time GM's and players.

It definately sounds like the begginer box is what you are looking for. It provides a easy to use ready made adventure that according to reports you can start playing with 20 minutes of just picking up the box and opening it up. That is exactly what it is designed for. Then after you and your friends get the hang of things, you can look at maybe moving on to the core book and a module or the adventure paths.

Silver Crusade

Yep, I'll 3rd the suggestion to use the beginner box and then try out some society scenarios.

The basic rules aren't hard to get down, but there's a lot of finesse when it comes to breaking someone's arm or dropping out of a tree to gain a bonus to attack.

Have them pick their classes and read up a bit on the abilities so you know what they can do and can help them if they get confused or have questions.

Thanks!
