Is there a VTT that lets me prepare material offline?

Technology

The title says it all. I have a lot of downtime at work and use it to prep material for my campaigns. I was all set on using roll20.net for an online campaign I want to run for a friend, until I realized I need to be online in order to prep.

So does anyone use or know of a good VTT that will suit my needs? Thanks!

Fantasy Grounds,D20pro, MapTool and most of the others available let you work offline.

I've used Fantasy Grounds for the past five years with great success.

Great! Thanks for the reply. I'll check out the free trials and go from there.

Thanks again.

Instead of posting a new thread I do have a follow up question.

After looking into some of the highly recommended VTTs I notice that they're basically games unto themselves. I feel like if I spend the time entering in all the stats/spells/feats/abilities it will feel less like PF and more like a co-op CRPG.

Basically, all I'm looking for is an editable grid-based map that my friends and I can draw on and move our characters around. I'll have all of the spells/abilities/feats in front of me in my pdfs or my print outs, I don't really see the need for all the extra fluff.

I just want the program to take the place of the battle map. That's it. Everything else we do the old fashioned way. Is there a bare-bones VTT like that out there?

Spreadsheets on Google Docs.

I use Maptool. Before you ask, "What about Macros and etc. etc. etc.?", let me explain.

I don't know how to do any of that stuff.

All I do when I use Maptool is set up the maps, drop the tokens, and if playerside I put my AC and HP into the character blanks, so my GM can see them at a glance (and I ask my players to do the same when I'm GMing). We roll dice manually and type in the results. We keep our character sheets on GoogleDocs, not in Maptool. All we do with the program otherwise is move the tokens around and use it as a visualization.

Hope that helps. =)

The amount of info you want to put in is up to you. I believe all the VTTs will allow you to show a blank or prepared map, roll dice and have fun. The option to input more details is just for convenience.

TTopRPG.

I am also a dedicated user of MapTool. It is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. I started off using it as a grid, and over the years have developed it into what I want it to be. It also has some great video tutorials for beginners.

Also, it's free.

The beauty with my suggestion is that the only thing your players need is the web browser.

I agree with Lilith. TTopRPG is the best VTT I've found. Completely free and the developer is active in his community. (He also posts here as Pygon)

I'm a big fan of MapTool. As others have noted, you use as much or as little as you like. Campaign Frameworks are available if you want to use them, but otherwise it's just a basic shareable map with tokens.
