Bioshock Infinite(Spoilers, natch)

Video Games

Finished the game and enjoyed it quite a bit, but felt that some subjects and arcs were cut far too short.

Spoiler:
I know the devs wanted the focus on Booker and Elizabeth, but the Fink/Vox arcs could have easily(?) been expanded while keeping with the themes of the game. Working for Fink for example, could have you attack the Vox and them launching a desperate last attack on Fink. Working for the Vox could have you pushing back Fink and Fitzroy heading off to deal with Fink herself and both paths converge on the area where they both die.

I liked the story but there were things I'm probably missing that could of been added and I'm holding out for the DLC to see if they are expanded upon.

Songbird:
I've only stumbled on some quick voxophone about it at the top of fink industries. Was there more? Again, I feel as I don't completely understand what Song bird is. I'm expecting it to be some guy in a suit, but there wasn't enough information, that I found in game at least. I kinda wanted to hear that he's also connected to Anna/Elizabeth, that he was grown from her pinky or something, and that he chased her everywhere, even the other dimensions.

I was also disappointed that songbird didn't attack or stalk us enough in the story. He appears at the tower, he is mentioned at the amusement park as being called in. He appears to destroy the first lady blimp, and stalks us once before we confront Lady Comstock, and the whole session before the finale was it. I was hoping there be sections where we need to hide from songbird as he's hot on our trail. I wanted to fear him, and have more encounters against him. I wanted to feel like I barely made an impact or died if I tried to take him face on. That didn't happen.

Lack of Enemies:
There was another part in the game that just sadden me as well. We have all these vigors scattered about the place and there wasn't enough enemies using them. There was the Fireman, and the Crow Cult. Other than the Fireman, there weren't enough villains that used vigors on me. The crows had the power, it was demonstrated well on their first introduction that their power could do it, but it was just them basically phasing in and out of the place.

One of the earlier tech demos, introducing "Charles", actually used the crow power on the player in the video. Seeing that it was cut, and not seeing other villains using the variety of vigors has put a frown over my heart. I hold out for the DLC still.

These are my own 2 cents.

Songbird:
Disappointing with the small showing as well. I remember one reviewer talking about that they hoped Songbird was a kind of persistent Big Daddy where you would have to hide out or get slammed.

Final battle:
Final battle was also a pain due to only having two weapons, which can really cramp your style if you have concentrated on two favorites. Plus the method of downign airships by jumping and and damagign the engine would take you away from the all important job of guarding the core.

** spoiler omitted **

I also enjoyed the game, and like all good things it made me sad when it ended, though the promise of future DLC is encouraging.

As for the aforementioned plot aspects...

Spoiler:

I thought Fink and the Vox were good villains, and I loved the way the buildup of their inevitable confrontation played out.

I must admit though, that when you started traveling through the tears to other worlds my initial thought was that the plot had 'jumped the shark' in a big way! I mean, you don't even actually defeat Fink, you just travel to another, similar world in which Fink is less competent, and when that doesn't work you travel through yet another tear to yet another world with an even more incompetent Fink who is eventually defeated.

With that kind of power at your disposal it's no wonder Booker was victorious, and I felt it rather cheapened his victories, and by association MY accomplishments as the player. On the other hand, this set the stage for the Vox Revolution which was probably the most fun part of the game for me.

So yes, I'm conflicted about the plot. Though for every plot point I hated there were ten other plot points I loved so I still give the game two thumbs up!
