Amtrak from LA

PaizoCon General Discussion

My friend and I will be arriving via Amtrak from LA (leaving 3 July and arriving in Seattle at Kings Station 4 July about 8:30 PM). Anyone else taking the same train? Perhaps we can coordinate some gaming upon the train, =)

I have been very tempted to take that trip also.
When were you guys thinking of returning?

Leave on the 8th, arrive back in LA on the 9th

That sounds like an awesome idea! I alrady have plane tickets, this year (I'm flying from San Diego), but I think this is something I'll look into for next year's con.

Yeah, I'll push for it next year as well. That's a lot of gaming that can be done.

Is it closer?

I also originally planned to take the train, but then my job unfortunately kept me from being able to take the entire time for the train ride. But next year, I'm totally doing it. Spread the word!

Yes, much closer.

Call for a cab when you leave the Tacoma station and give them your ETA then.

If you coordinate it well enough I can make sure someone from my PFS crew picks you up at the station.

I've been looking at this option for this year's PaizoCon. Amtrak is almost the exact same price as flying and adds two days to the trip. However, if enough people were jumping on board, it could be a blast.

One option: The Coast Starlight from San Diego to Seattle train gets into the King's Street Station at 8:40 PM. Cross the street and you can hop on the Light Rail from the International / Chinatown station to the SeaTac / Airport station near the hotel. This means you check in around 10 PM and have to lug your baggage about half a mile to and from the light rail.

The second option is to get off in Tacoma around 7 PM and take the 20 mile cab ride to the airport to check in around 7:30 PM. This is not a bad option if a few folks share the cab.

A third option would be to hang out at the Tacoma station for an hour and a half to take the Amtrak Cascade train to Tukwila (which is not a stop for the Coast Starlight) for $7.50 and then take the 5 mile cab ride to the hotel. This option will also have you checking in around 9:45 PM.

Either way you do it, you probably would want to arrive on July 2. This way you can drink and socialize in the bar, get a good night's sleep, and catch the pre-party on the 3rd.

Weekends near July 4th used to be horrible for me to get out of Tempe, but I have move upward in my work-world and I no longer have that time blacked out. I plan on finally attending PaizoCon for real (rather than the fake hopes) this year.

I, fortunately, have a lot of vacation that I occasionally have trouble using, adding a day or two traveling to and form Seattle sounds tempting.

Although, I have several friends who have recently settled in the area and I may add a day or three prior or after PaizoCon.

I saw this post and I thought I would try to help my fellow pathfinders out. I am both a Seattle native and very familiar with the area as well as someone who takes either the commuter train or the light rail daily.

For ease and convenience, I would suggest Sarta's option number one with a slight edit. The light rail goes all the way to the airport. I would personally take the hotel shuttle from the airport. I believe that should be a possibility.

To be honest, a cab from Tacoma would be super expensive even if split. If you wanted to take that route, I would just take the Sound Transit 574 from Tacoma to the airport and then take the hotel shuttle from the airport.

Also, the Tukwilla station is not really a station so much as a platform where the train stops. There is not even a building there yet. It wouldn't be so bad if you called and had a taxi waiting but there isn't anything there if a problem were to arise.

That is just my two cents.
