Ok... so I feel like we need to share this with all of you.

We’ve been working on a book called, “Heroes of the West” for a while now (few months). It’s along the same vein as our “Heroes of the East” line. We used the same artist, Marcus, as we did for Heroes of the East 2. He blew us away with awesome almost sumi-e style artwork for that book so we put him on Heroes of the West because of that. Let me tell you- he did not disappoint us.

I wish I could show you guys a super-high rez version of this picture but even a lower resolutions it is just gorgeous. <3

On June 1st we will be releasing Heroes of the West with three BEAUTIFUL paintings from Marcus (Spirit Walker, Painted Rider, and Jaguar Warrior). It covers north & south american characters, including the Brave base class. I really hope you guys will join us in exploring the Wild West as it was meant to be!

Included:

  • Brave base class
  • Jaguar Warrior (Barbarian Archetype)
+3 example cultural variants (Eagle Warriors, Koa Warriors, Dog Soldiers)
+Guidelines for making your own variants
  • New Weapons/Armor (Native American & Aztec)
  • Painted Rider (Samurai Archetype)
    +Order of the Nomadic Warrior
  • Conquistador (Fighter Archetype)
  • Spirit Walker (Ranger Archetype)
  • 5 New Barbarian Totems (Usable by spirit walker as well)
  • Cowboy Gunslinger Archetype
  • New Western Feats
  • All of Marcus’ images as high resolution images

  • So this is a direct quote from one of our external reviewers who just read the doc,
"You have no idea how long I've been dying to do a western RPG. This is badass. Scott you have read my mind, this is exactly the rule book I've been dreaming of writing. Man you have no idea how long I've been dying to do a Lone Ranger-style campaign. YEARS man, YEARS."

We have everything finalized and edited. Just gotta do some last min formatting on Saturday and it should be out before the end of the day.

Friggin awesome, I was kinda hoping to put some authentic Native American input into this. What kind of Natives do you have represented?

We focused a lot on the Great Planes Indians post adoption of the horse (So like Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Comanche, Crow, Kiowa, and Lakota & Yankton Sioux) but as this is a fantasy book we don't want to focus on a particular real world culture. For example: We have gunstock clubs and riding clubs while on the other hand we took a stab a brave base class that involves counting coup as a core mechanic. (We didn't feel it could be done justice as a "barbarian" alternate... which might also have been a bit insulting. We have far to much respect for that lol)

Definitely buying this. I can get some usage of the Conquistador for my Caribbean home game I'll be running.

Conquistador is a very fun little alternate. They are a fighter who get a mount, firearms, and a unique mechanic based on races they work with/fight against (they gain languages, diplomacy/intimidate bonuses, gain racial weapons, etc).

    Iiiinteresting.

You might be on to something here.

    So is it released yet?

It's currently 10:54pm Friday night here in Arizona. It will be up in 24 hours or less. (We work on Tuesdays and Saturdays)

Heh. I'm in Oz so your tomorrow is my yesterday. Or something. Thanks for the heads up!!!

Awesome, I'm definitely buying this. Maybe for Heroes of the West 2 you can throw in some guerrilla fighters, after all the Army Rangers are based on Native America fighting techniques.

I'd love to see some Caribbean natives stuff in the next one. Hell, if you guys need someone that knows a lot about it, I know a lot about it :D

    @Arkady Zelenka
Actually take a look at Tome of Leaf & Thorn for that!

    @Odraude
Well, if this book sells well enough we will defiantly continue onward with more. We kept on doing Heroes of the East because people liked them We did HoE I, II, and III is coming soon + an eastern setting. Same with out Legendary levels line.

If we do however we would love to explore something like that.

I was going to suggest what Odraude did, but I was beat to the punch, how about some Polynesian heroes? It's close to the enough to the East and they are tribal like us Native Americans over in the West.

Just a heads up, we have everything ready to go sans a cover. Just waiting for the last few touch ups on it and it should be out here in an hour or so.

I'd love to explore some Polynesian heroes. Maybe doing somethings farther north? Maybe Inuit inspired too.

That would be cool, Inuits are a bit farther north than Mohawk, since we're right on the Canadian/American border and near Montreal but its getting closer. I can't wait.

Heroes of the West is now live on DriveThruRPG.

It is also submitted to Paizo.com, the d20 PFSRD Store, and Indy Press Revolution.
