Hey hey folks,
Hopefully folks can help here. My RoTRL campaign is in the middle of the Skinsaw Murders, but for my next session a critical player is going to be absent (he plays the healer) and I'd prefer not to advance the storyline (they're on the verge of heading to the Misgivings) without him there.
So, I find myself in need of a short (1-2 session) side quest/module/scenario type thing that:
1. Will fit into Sandpoint.
2. Play off themes from either Skinsaw Murders or Rise of the Runelords.
3. is reasonably combat heavy.
Some ideas I had, if I end up writing it, are:
1. Goblin resurgence.
2. A scouting party with a Giant as a prelude to later events.
3. A near by village in trouble from the Ghouls (i.e. the Skinsaw Man isn't just troubling Sandpoint).
Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Have a Ghoulish attack on Sandpoint at night. A half dozen or so ghouls invade the town via the river, as suggested in the write-up.
Alternatively, if they're level 5 (and there's four or five players still there) then you could run them through the module "Dawn of the Scarlet Sun" (set in Magnimar)- you could include Shalelu to give them more firepower if necessary.

I'll also suggest Dawn of the Scarlet Sun - it fits into the level range, and is a great plot hook for the faithful of Sarenrae. Even if you don't have a Sarenite in your group, some of the other good faiths might feel compelled to finish the work the Dawnflower's clergy started eighty years ago. I definitely plan on using it as a side trek when they make it to Magnimar!
