Revising Hunter's Bond

Homebrew and House Rules

Liberty's Edge

One of my players is thinking about a ranger for when I stat running Rise of the Runelords in a couple months. But he hates Hunter's Bond. Specifically, the non-animal version, which he does not want as another player is leaning to a druid or summoner and he wants to limit the amount of toe-stepping and animals running around the table.

The party version of Hunter's Bond does seem a little weak. Burning a move action for a +1 or +2 bonus for a couple round is not amazing, especially when compared to two or three attacks.

I was wondering if making it a swift action would be better. Or is it suddenly too good?
Or would increasing the duration would work better?

Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

Looking at Freebooter's Bond.
It strikes me that this is akin to giving everyone in 30ft the Outflank teamwork feat.

Would changing Hunter's Bond into a power where you pick a teamwork feat of your choice (and can give everyone the feat as a move action) work?
Or is giving people the choice of the feat too powerful?

mmm i dont think youre changes (any), would be op,

move action is a great improvement!!

What if you add wis mod plus half the rangers level to the total of round to make the vanilla Hunter´s Bond?

that way it will last more than a couple of rounds

Verdant Wheel

how about move action to grant (half) Favored Enemy bonus
plus
continuous (half) Favored Terrain bonus to all allies within 30 ft?

this could allow an entire party to be sneaky in the right circumstance.

You might want to look at the "Guide" archetype then...

no favored enemy and the bond is with a type of terrain to get extra boni.

Quote:

Ranger's Focus (Ex): At 1st level, once per day, the guide can focus on a single enemy within line of sight as a swift action. That creature remains the ranger's focus until it is reduced to 0 or fewer hit points or surrenders, or until the ranger designates a new focus, whichever occurs first. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on attack and damage rolls against the target of his focus. At 5th level, and every five levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +2.

At 4th level, and every 3 levels thereafter, the ranger can use this ability one additional time per day. This ability replaces favored enemy.

Terrain Bond (Ex): At 4th level, the guide forms a bond with the land itself, enabling him to direct others in such terrain. When in his favored terrain, the ranger grants all allies within line of sight and that can hear him a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks. Also, as long as they travel with him, the ranger's allies leave no trail and can't be tracked. The ranger can choose for the group to leave a trail, or even specific members of the group to leave a trail if he so desires. This ability replaces hunter's bond.

The Terrain Bond is "always on".

Verdant Wheel

I am still interested in ideas to buff the non-animal version of Hunter's Bond.

Anybody got any cool homebrew?
