So, for roleplay reasons my Fetchling Ninja (7) has become devoted to Desna. In fact, as a former slave of Argrinyxia, Queen of Umbral Dragons and Ruler of the Shadow Planes, my little ninja dreams of destroying her one day, to replace her with Desna, the true lady of Night. It seems like a dip into Inquisitor, or Cleric, or Oracle, or maybe even spherewalker would be a nice reflection of that.
But, besides flavor, is there any way to get utility out of this dip?
So thus far, I have been focusing on a two-weapon build, and a build towards ShadowDancer. Just hit 7th, so choices in parantheses are not locked in yet.
Stats:
S:14, D:22, Cn:16, I:14, W:12, Cha:21
Serpent Runner Two Weapon Trait
Reactionary Trait
Dodge
Weapon Finesse
Weapon Focus Wakizashi
Two Weapon Fighting
(Mobility)
Fast Stealth
Vanishing Trick
Combat Trick-- Combat Reflexes
Skills: Performance Dance (2-->5)
~~~
So clearly, I have positioned my ninja for Shadow Dancer at 8th level. And... not great wisdom. So, is there any possible utility into a class devoted to Desna? Or would I do better to play a devoted ninja?
Look here.
You will notice that musicians are common followers.
The "Starlight Battle Dance" could be quite thematic.
Combine with the Spirit Totem Rage Power to take advantage of your high charisma, and fit the theme.
I'm not sure that a level of inquisitor would be worth it. You would lose out on ki, BAB, and a ninja trick. In exchange you would get Judgment 1/day, a first level domain power, medium armor proficiency, wisdom to some knowledge skills, +1 to intimidate and sense motive, 4 orisons, 2 first level spells you can cast 1+Wis/day, and the ability to use spell completion items for a modest spell list.
Cleric has the same drawbacks, but you get 1+1+Wis spells a day, two domain powers, and the complete divine spell list.
Paladin might be the most mechanically useful "holy man" class dip since it's full BAB and has Charisma synergy. 3/4 BAB dual wielders need all the help they can get hitting, so I'm really hesitant to multi class with them.
Thematically, I see inquisitors as more interested in policing heresy among the faithful or combating the greatest threats to the faith. So that would fit the roleplay of a convert out to save the world for his new religion. Whether the things like a lower BAB and less efficiency from your ninja class in the name of flavor hurts the mechanics too much depends on how aggressive your DM is and the composition of your group.
