So I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but if an eidolon gets buffed with mage armor (or similar duration spells) and is dismissed, when resummoned are those buffs still in effect (assuming the duration hasn't lapsed?) I guess the two schools of thought are 1) the eidolon is sent back to its home plane but still exists and still has those effects in place or 2) the eidolon is said not to exist any more and all continuing effects on it are immediately dispelled when dismissed? I tend to believe the first is the case, but any official errata/ruling would be appreciated.

I don't believe there are any rules besides maybe some odd magic item that 'pauses' a magical effect.
Once a spell is cast, unless it is based on concentration, it stays in effect for its duration (unless dismissed). The fact that in the above situation, its target is ceasing to be available for 'game time' doesn't stop that count down. The effect would continue on like normal (even though the target switched planes) and if called back during the duration of the buff, I would have the effect still in place. The creature switched planes, it didn't cease to exist, the buff never loses its target (or go poof!).
Possible issues would be the plane the eidolon goes to having different time properties, but seeing as the plane is never defined it would be a house rule to say it is either slower or faster. Another would be death, once the eidolon dies it would probably cease being a valid target (I know we play dead creatures are essentially 'objects' as extension of the rules there are regarding such things) so buffs might drop when someone dies.

Detrimental effects do not disappear unless the duration has expired, why would beneficial effects?
House ruling that effects with durations were terminated when the eidolon was unsummoned would provide the summoner a means of terminating detrimental effects.
Example: hold monster. I release my eidolon and cast summon eidolon. Would you rule the hold monster spell was no longer in effect?

The only FAQ close to this is about the synthesist. In that all effects persist on the summoner once the eidolon goes away. I would say they would persist on the eidolon outside that archetype as well. There's nothing about summoned creatures losing effects when they go home outside that FAQ which is limited to a single archetype.
