Choice of Feats for a Guided Hand Cleric

Advice

In a campaign I'm in, I play a human cleric of Cayden Cailean that took Channel Smite and Guided Hand in the first level. The character has been good to me, as I can consistently hit due to a high wisdom score.

However, now coming on ninth level, I'm at a crossroads for feats: should I take Vital Strike, which could improve my damage (especially since my strength stinks), or take Leadership (which our DM has graciously allowed the group to have)?

I realize that a cleric with high wisdom should concentrate on other things besides melee combat, but it seems somewhat pitiful that I only do 1d6+2 for an attack.

Vital strike wouldn't help you all that much compared to other classes damage out put at the same level, and vital strike doesn't work with a full attack.

I recommend you look at going the spell storing route with your melee weapon and storing spells in it from there for a strong hit that way.

More then that I'd consider self buffs for melee damage and output...but as you get higher in level don't look at yourself as a damage dealer as a high wisdom cleric.

IMHO you could probably do ok spell damage, but have a great debuffing effect with your spells on the enemy. I would aim towards that end and start looking at improving the DC's of your evocation spells or even aiming for spell perfection by getting some meta magic feats.

Strength and Power Attack are necessary for a decent base damage. Power Attack also lets your damage scale with levels. Since you got neither, you won't see your damage scale at all unless you pump out spells to buff your damage with. And that damage stacks on str/PA, so you'll always be lagging behind.

Something you could do is to start using Summon Monster or Spiritual Weapon / Ally. The second benefits from a Bard's inspire courage and spells such as bless, prayer and divine favor (+3att/dmg for 1 min/lvl at lvl9!). The spiritual line also does force damage so it cuts through DR, hits incorporeal creatures and the Ally fills up a spot, flanks and threatens (and thus can make AoO's).

You can always use your high to hit versus undead foes to smite them when you're buffed up. A spell-storing weapon with a Cure Serious in it together with a channel can dish out some serious damage against an undead foe. Add in party buffs like haste, bless, luck, divine favor and perhaps bard goodies like inspire courage and good hope and anyone can hit and do damage ;)

I'm in the same boat with one of my characters. I'm a lvl14 cleric with a low base damage (no STR really, no power attack) so I need to use other methods to crank out damage reliably.

What are your current feats?

What books are allowed?

What are you stats?

@Big Kyle- any recommendations for spells to store?

@Krass- I figured Spiritual Weapon would be useful to me. Early in the game I used spiritual weapon constantly and worked my way towards getting a Crown of Swords.

And since Spiritual Weapon uses the critical range and threat of your deity's favored weapon, Cayden Cailean lets me summon rapiers that do 1d8 damage and still have the 18-20 crit range.

@blackbloodtroll- I apologize that I can't give out the feats or stats of my character at the moment, but my DM has allowed me to use anything in the Pathfinder SRD (excepting third party material).

any of the cause wounds, dispel magic is always a solid one, hold person, sometimes if you want to be mean...reduce person ;p

Theres a couple others that can be great for the right situation.

I still recommend building towards spell perfection and other "nuke" style spells.

How much longer before you can use Quicken Spell? Casting a spell into your weapon and then delivering it in the same round seems pretty solid. Even if all you can Quicken is a 1st-level spell, that's an extra 1d8 damage, and it's not like there's still much for 1st-level spells that remains relevant at 9th level.

As for feats, I'd say if Leadership is on the table, grab it. Get yourself a flank partner, or somebody you can trade buff spells with.

Leadership is a dmg multiplier, period! No single feat can ever come close to the dmg potential and overall utility of the leadership feat.
