Aasimar elf?

Can I be an aasimer elf with half elf traits and half aasimer traits? It says that aasimers do not necessarily need to be human, so is this possible?

The fact that aasimars don't have to be human is only for physical appearances, they still have all the stats of a aasimar. The only variation is a small aasimar, who takes the standard penalties and benefits for being small.

It just changes you appearance. Instead of looking like an odd human, you look like an odd half-elf. Human aasimar don't get human racial traits, half-elf assimar don't get half elf racial traits.

As far as I know, Aasimar breeding with non-human races only influences size and culture. For example, a half-halfling Aasimar is a small sized creature and can qualify for cultural (not racial) halfling feats and such. Which feats or traits are "cultural" is kinda vague though, so I think it's best just to say that it makes you Small and leave it at that.

There's an alternate racial trait called Scion of Humanity which allows you to count as both Aasimar and Human for all prerequisites. If you're using a parent race different from human, you can presumably "tweak" this ability to represent your actual parentage. If you don't have this trait, you can't qualify for prerequisites of your parents' race. For example, if you are a Halfling-descended Aasimar, you'll be an Aasimar for all things (stats, racial abilities, etc) but you'll be small rather than medium. You won't be able to take a feat, trait, etc. that has Halfling as a prerequisite. However, if you swapped out for Scion of Halflings, you'd also count as Humanoid(Halfling) and that would qualify you for "Prerequisite: halfling".

Well, you could also go Scion of Humanity Aasimar, and then nab the Racial Heritage feat.
