So my PCs were spotted by the raven swarm and have been carrying around the mirrors they found. Two of them also went to the tavern and left after the barkeep kicked them out with his crossbow. The Pale Tower should be aware of them. I had the six guards go to Nadya's house to arrest them. The PCs dispatched them in short order. One of the guards made it through a window before he died, and some of the people in the street called the guards.
After that happened, the barbarian waited until the guards came (I have the NPCs from the sargeant's encounter coming), and then he ran, drawing them into a chase they cannot win since he is so fast. All of the rest of the PCs and Nadya are going to claim that the barbarian was the one who killed all of the guards, and the sorcerer has been using prestidigitation to clean the blood off of them so it will be more believable.
We have small kids running around so its difficult for my wife to play in the campaign. I'm trying something new by allowing her to play a few NPCs from time to time, so she can pop in and play for a minute without having to commit for the entire session. I'm going to have her control the sergeant, and I'd like to make this encounter a bit more interesting for her sake and also to reward the PCs for their creative thinking in terms of pinning it all on the barbarian.
Any suggestions on how to run with this?

It's a shame no one else commented on this. Your PCs are pretty creative.
I would have the sergeant interrogate them and if he believes them with a good bluff check I would actually have him wrangle the PCs into helping him hunt down the crazed barbarian. Or even if he doesn't he could play it up that he does and have them "help" him anyway After all if they are good and noble citizens then they would easily help him out and he could easily use the commotion and weather to attempt to kill the PCs while they are hunting the Barbarian. He would force them roughly into the job either way as it is suggested in his information block that he easily undervalues the PCs so he could see them as cannon fodder while him and his troupe take out the barb, or to get them cold and weak and surround the whole party if he doesn't believe them.
It's what I would do anyway.

PCs succeeded very well on their bluff, but then refused to hunt down the barbarian because they wouldn't stand a chance against him or something. The sergeant was going to let them go because they did so well but then tried to arrest Nadya and they ended up fighting anyway.
Fun bit of roleplaying in any case. Thanks for the ideas.
