I'm rather new to Pathfinder and am finding the rules for giving monsters from the Bestiary class levels to be rather confusing. This is being made worse because I recently purchased the Rise of the Runelords hardcover and it seems like none of the characters in that follow the rules given in the Bestiary. So, here goes me trying to make a Lizardfolk Level 1 Fighter. Tell me if I'm doing this wrong.
First you take the aforementioned creature and give it ability modifiers of +4, +4, +2, +2, +0, and -2. So, something like:
Str: 13 + 4 = 17
Dex: 10 + 2 = 12
Con: 13 + 4 = 17
Int: 9 + 2 = 11
Wis: 10 + 0 = 10
Cha: 10 - 2 = 8
Naturally putting the biggest bonuses into Strength and Constitution and making him rather gruff and unsociable in the process. Then you add the Fighter's d10 hit die to the Lizardfolk's already existing 2d8 to get his hit points. After that you give him all of the feats, skills and such that a level 1 fighter would possess. Next his CR goes from 1 up to 2 since a Lizardfolk is a combat role monster and fighter matches up with that. Finally, you look up how much money and gear a level 2 NPC would have and spend that on him.
So, did I do all of that correctly? If I did then why don't any of these guys in the Rise of the Runelords seem to follow these rules? Were they just fudging things when creating these guys? I'm so confused. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
