I've got a cleric who is about to hit level 7, and one of the 4th-level spells I'm looking at is divination. It seems like it could be incredibly useful, but I'm wondering how well it would really work out in an Organized Play environment. Does anyone have any experience with using spells like this?

I have some small experience using Divination. I have a 14 level Mystic Theurge. While playing through Eyes of the Ten, there was a moment where i wanted to use a Divination spell.
The Eyes of the Ten story arc takes place over multiple sessions. What I did was e-mail the GM, whom i was planning to have my character cast a Divination on. I was also planning to cast a Plane shift spell. I told the GM before hand where i was planning to go and why. This way the GM was able to incorporate my plans, a gesture he appreciated.
For a single session I am not sure. My best guess would be to let the GM know at the beginning of the slot that you plan to use a Divination spell.

One time in one of my games, a PC used commune to contact a rakshasa maharaja. It turns out that the party had been given thousands of gold worth of jewels for the mission that were absolutely unneeded and not part of the loot, so he offered to send this wealth to the maharaja as a gift, and I had the rakshasa play nice, giving helpful answers that assisted in guiding the PCs to victory.
In general, I'm happy to compose a sonnet or other cryptic poem (since a chaotic deity probably wouldn't use a structured form like a sonnet) on the spot whenever someone wants a divination.

For PFS, any thing like this is going to mean a lot of table variation. Each GM is different.
Besides, aren't prophecies on Golarion, not supposed to work now?
Prophecies work some of the time, but since they don't work all of the time any more, people are very skeptical of them. Also, I think that doesn't apply to divination magic, just "prophecies".
