building constructs

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

does any one know of a good general purpose set of information for construct creation?

I allowed my player to get/build a construct and the player wants to add to it... i want to allow it but I also want to see if there is anything like a race guide or magic item creation guide for constructs

any hints?

If the player wants something unique you could use the guidelines for Homunculus.

The Bestiary entries for golems have crafting and material cost in their entries. I would find someting with similar size and material and adjust from there.

There's also this... http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/building-and-modifying-constructs

This covers both the general guidelines for custom constructs and for after-factory modifications.

yea.. been doing something like that.

guess I will just continue.

thanks

It looks as if those rules roughly break down to...

1) Pay the cost of a weapon or armor enhancement to grant that ability to the construct
2) Pay a relatively paltry sum to increase its stats or hit dice after manufacture
3) Incorporate the cost of an alchemical or magical trap to include it in the construct
4) Pay a fixed amount to enable the construct to be worn like power armor or wielded like some kind of bionic limb.

These general categories have few additional restrictions, so if you wanted an Iron Golem with half again the normal HP, massive armor, an entire armory of weapons and a Symbol of Pain on its forehead, you can, without any significant expenses beyond what you would pay to get those things individually.

An interesting note... the modification that turns the golem into power armor does not seem to specify what type of armor it is. It takes as long to remove as a Breastplate but that's it. It has no spell failure chance, speed or mobility reduction or skill requirement. One could even sleep in it.
