Reincarnation in RotR

Rise of the Runelords

So, our cleric (the only healer) died in part 2 :

spoiler:
during the fight with Aldern in Foxglove Manor

All four players have no great experience in tabletop rpgs. Being the GM I know that they have less treasure than they should/could have untill this point (but this balances their great stats,so no real problem there). I am thinking of how I could handle the situation, I know for sure that the player wants to create a cleric again, because they still need a healer and he doesnt really like all other divine caster options.

As much as they would like the idea, resurrection spells are probably out of the question due to lack of money and ''power''. So I thought of introducing to them the reincarnation possibility to spice things a little bit and maintain the cleric class, too.

I would like the idea of Madame Mvashti pinpoint them to an other druid who ows her a favor and could cast the spell. Then I could make this a 1 or 2 side quests trip ( something like finding the druid? and then search for a portion of the oil?). This imo would help in 2 ways. First of all : that would make them understand that return from the dead is neither impossible for their level nor something accomplished in one day. Second, that may be a way for them to neither lose nor gain large amounts of gold.

Any help, suggestion from you guys would be really appreciated! Maybe there is published material I could use? or something I should be worried about all this affecting our game?^^ Thanks in advance.

They could also use the amulet they recovered from Nualia to keep the body preserved indefinitely... or for that matter use the Necromancer's wand (assuming they encountered him). It keeps the body from decaying... and stops the "clock" for when they need to do a Raise Dead spell.

Then they can go on a mission for a high enough level cleric (maybe one in Magnimar) in order to get their friend brought back. The cleric's player could even play a temporary character - basically a cohort of the cleric (possibly another cleric, a cavalier, or a paladin) while going on the cleric's quest.

I had a similar experience in our campaign. The PC druid died in the fight against

Spoiler:
Nualia
and the group decided to ask Madam Mvashti (who was incidentally the adoptive mother of the dead druid) for a reincarnation - which she provided.

I didn't create a subquest to get the reagent mainly because that would put the druid's player out of the game for the reminder of the session (he died at the start of it). But if you get an opportunity to prepare a sidequest and a temporary replacement character for the player whose PC died, I think it would be a wonderful idea!

Yes!! I am also excited about the whole side quest opportunity! I think i will have him play shalelu (by describing in person some personality tips he needs to know) for 1-2 sessions so that the party gets a little closer with that NPC and be ready for part 3! Anyway.. I am still searching for anything published that may help me because creating everything from 0 will be too much for me right now I think..

Magnimar and Windsong Abbey are both 2 days travel from Sandpoint. Both have clerics capable of Raise Dead and druids capable of Reincarnation. Note that the form you take after a Reincarnation is random and both options come with negative levels requiring A) Restoration or B) lumping it.

Scarab Sages

Here's an interesting tidbit that I'm saving for my RotRL campaign, in the event the need arises:

Spoilers for The Shattered Star Adventure Path::

It is mentioned in "Curse of the Lady's Light" that Sorshen, the Runelord of Lust, created an unknown number of clones of herself. In the event of her death, she would be reincarnated into one of these bodies. In the adventure, if a PC is killed by a spell trap (or if they save and die later), the magic ties the PC to the clone, and they treat Sorshen's clone as their own, and immediately awaken in her body (pp. 26-27).

I just really like that there's a built in solution--and one with interesting RP opportunities, no less.

This is a viable option, and according to the posts in the Obits page for that campaign indicate that this is indeed a great RP opportunity.

...However, I like the idea of a PC coming back as a racially opposite race (Elf to Dwarf, for example). Or a platypus or something...
