In pathfinder usually you don't have to jump in and out of battle much from what I've experienced. In society you don't get many chances to do that sort of thing either, and turns used not helping can really get on some peoples nerves.(Like that wizard who's first action is stepping back and casting mage armor. Why Wizard why!? You have ultimate power!)
Ranger is much more fit for combat if you want someone on the frontlines, and switch hitters can kind of jump back and forth. Is there something in particular you want?

I"m sorry I'm rather new to everything, what do you mean by switch hitting?
A switch hitter ranger is one that's decent at archery and melee, so he shoots until things get closer, then he picks up (usually a two handed weapon) and goes to town on them. Its a pretty decent build for pfs, because occasionally you do get ranged fights.
Rogues... usually require a fair bit of work to be good for the very combat heavy pfs.

I have never played a ranger, but if you do go that route, this is a good read:

It explains your switch hitter options for the ranger quite well.
Sorry link looks like it is putting in a blank I can't remove. I will try to play with it and see if I can get it to go.

The guide explains it pretty well. You use the Rangers ability to get feats without prereqs to snag feats for archery, and then you pump a bit of strength a bit higher than usual so you can deal damage with a two handed weapon which requires very few feats to use effectively.
Boon companion at 5th is nice so you always have a powerful friend with you. At lvl 7 the Large Cat companion is well known for tearing npcs apart, and you can put armor on him to increase his durability.
Skills wise you have 6+, which gives you lots of room. In PFS you can expect to run into many social encounters so I wouldn't ignore you diplomacy too much, just in case you get stuck without teammates during a faction mission.
Converting PP to wands isn't an awful idea. Infernal healing really helps keep the group going, and even if you can't use it chances are someone at the table can.
