What if I made a Scrollmaster wizard 1/Magus X? I was looking at the Scrollmaster, and noticed that the signature ability - Scroll Blade - comes in at 1st level. I was noticing that I'd be destroying lots of scrolls just by successfully attacking, so I thought "Gee, I'd better make sure that each hit counts; how could I pile lots of damage onto a single hit?"

Oh, hello Mr. Magus.

On the other hand, if I look at it from the opposite direction, I'm taking a Magus and saying, "Hm, I think I'd like to lose a point of BAB, slow down my spell/class feature progression, and lose a couple of HP just so that I can buy my weapons on a per-hit basis."

On the other other hand, whipping out a scroll and crushing it against somebody's forehead like a beer can, and thereby delivering my shocking grasp... well, that sounds like loads of fun. ;)

Oh, one other wrinkle: this would be a PFS character, so there's no crafting - I'd be paying retail for these scrolls.

Is the idea hopeless, or could it be somehow made viable?

Well, that's 25 gp a scroll, and only 1 hit point for first level spells. So it doesn't sound practical.

BUT...
You could take the Bladebound Magus archetype and Two Weapon Fighting with a short sword black blade, and later stack things like Weapon Finesse (you already have a 15 Dex if you go TWF), Weapon Focus and (at character level 11... oops!) Weapon Specialization if you REALLY want to be silly.

That way you can use a scroll blade in your off-hand when you're not casting in combat. ;)

I don't care much for the scrollmaster wizard, especially if you won't be able to craft the scrolls, but if you want to play one, magus would make it more viable than it would be otherwise, for what that's worth...

Actually, if you look closely, you'll notice that as far as Scroll Blade is concerned, scrolls of 1st-level spells are handled the same as cantrip scrolls.

Thus, for my "one and done" scrolls that get treated as masterwork short swords and are destroyed after one hit, I would never use a 1st-level scroll. I'd just keep tons of cantrip scrolls on hand for 12.5gp each. So it's not quite as bad as you described. But still.
