Everyday uses for magic.

Gamer Life General Discussion

I recently had the players explore the former 'house' of a wizard, and I populated it with magically powered items/rooms that had an everyday function (e.g. heating, light, water, cooking, freezer, etc).

The players want to use this as their 'base' and also I need to develop another setting previously owned by the same wizard.

Any suggestions regarding how I should develop this theme?

Items enchanted with Prestidigitation would be all over the place- cabinets for cleaning (ie the equivelent of dishwashers & washing machines) using it to warm bathwater(and clean the tub), soup bowls coffee mugs and tea cups enchanted to keep the contents warm, plates that can reheat left overs, enchanted bookmarks that give off enough light to read by, a "ring of sustenance" collar that only works on pets & familiars, "ray of frost" enchanted chest (ie a cooler or small fridge),"message" cubes in each main room (ie an intercom)
Gods....tell me when to stop! The possibilities are almost infinite!

Hell, and that's just Cantrips.

Unseen Servant is obviously going to be a popular one.

Perhaps a time sensitive, resettable Alarm item to use as something like an egg timer?

Portable Hole waste disposal?

Breeze cantrip air conditioning/fan.

And so much, much, MUCH more.

Open/close on the doors. Ever had your hands full and just wanted it to open?

Mending table. Never darn socks again! Combine with prestidigitation for fixing those clothes up after an adventure.

Mage hand in the kitchen. An ounce of nutmeg please.

Ghost Sound ipod/sound system. A gentle surf to lull you to sleep, or a rousing tune to wake you.

Drench fire extinguishers in the lab and living room.

Scoop dust pan for dealing with those troublesome spills or cleaning up the lawn after a pet.

If you're friendly with a cleric, create water to water the lawn. If not, drench will do in a pinch.

Hold portal doors. Because locks are just tacky.

Endure Elements slippers. It's cold in the morning.

Comprehend languages reading chair. I want to read the original Umbral Leaves, not your gauche translation.

Sleep. For when the baby just won't be quite.

Floating disk for heavy lifting.

Silent image window with ghost sound. Sometimes it's nice to look out somewhere else.

Bed of iron bed stand. Always have a good bed.

Crafter's fortune. Why my lab? Because I work better there!

Feather fall utility belt for the roof.

Enlarge/reduce person, when it's just not conveniently located.

Purify Food and Drink/ray of frost cabinet. Your fridge makes things last forever. Perfect for the wizard that gets obsessed and forgetful.

Enhance Water mug. Do I have to explain this to you?

My personal favorite though is the permanent-wall-of-fire boiler. Unlimited hot water and steam power!

Brilliant! Better than the sorcerer's apprentice even.
Keep 'em coming!

Don't forget a coffee machine (prestigitation/heating, maybe?). Wizards need their caffeine if they're gonna be studying their spellbooks.

How about a portable sink that can transform into a a bathtub?

Like this. A colleague has just suggested dust proofing everything to save work!
