Question about Maximize Spell

Rules Questions

Hey guys, quick question about maximize spell. Does it maximize the number on the dice you roll or make you roll the maximum amount of dice possible?

As an example, if you are CL 4 and cast a maximized shocking grasp (1d6 per caster lvl max 5d6) would you roll 5d6 or would you do 24 damage directly?

Also, if possible id like some valid arguments. Im having an argument with my GM and hes not too sure either...

The spell description is very clear

Maximize Spell (Metamagic)

Your spells have the maximum possible effect.

Benefit: All variable, numeric effects of a spell modified by this feat are maximized. Saving throws and opposed rolls are not affected, nor are spells without random variables. A maximized spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell's actual level.

A maximized Shocking Grasp would do 30 damage (5*6) but you must be atleast lvl 7 because you need a 4th level spell slot ( Shocking Grasp is a lvl1 spell +3 = 4).

You don't roll, you automatically do the maximum damage for the spell that you cast. In this case 24 points. EDIT: Assuming you are using a maximize rod.

The dice are considered the variable effects.

There are lots of threads that discuss maximize.

Thanks guys
