I put the ksthanks code in (and the order says the code was applied), and $3.06 was subtracted from the total, until I changed the shipping to ship with my next subscription shipment, and the ksthanks discount disappeared, going back to ~$30 from ~$27.

Because it went into the sidecart you won't see the discount until the next subscription order is spawned into a real order. The sidecart code we have for what you see on the website doesn't display the subtotal and the discount is applied to the subtotal, you don't see it until the items leave the sidecart and go into a real order.
