There is something strange in the pricing of the Strand of prayer beads.

The power of a special bead is lost if it is removed from the strand. Reduce the price of a strand of prayer beads that is missing one or more beads by the following amounts: bead of blessing –600 gp, bead of healing –9,000 gp, bead of karma –20,000 gp, bead of smiting –16,800 gp, bead of summons –20,000 gp, bead of wind walking –46,800 gp.

The spellcasting beads:

bead of blessing 600 gp, spell level l * caster level 1 * 2 no space *1.800 =3.600/5 =720

bead of healing 9,000 gp, 3*5*2*1.800 command word = 10.800/5 = 2.160

bead of smiting 16,800 gp, 4*7*2*1.800= 100.800/5= 20.160

bead of wind walking 46,800 gp. 6*11*2*1.800=237.600/5= 47.520

The bead of blessing, smiting and wind walking have a discount, and that is reasonable as the bead are spell trigger items, so limited to the classes that can already cast those spells.

The bead of healing instead has a great surcharge. Being capable to chose between 3 different spells is a bonus, but it is not worth a multiplier of 4.16. For that price it would be possible to make 4 different beads and get a better final result.

I am missing something?

Remember though...the pricing for magic items isn't EXACT...and the "rules" people use are not "rules" they are guidelines, certain magic items will add up completely different if you do the same math you did above, some do add up perfectly though.

As for making different beads...thats TOTALLY up to your GM, and since in those guidelines it states that you also have to be careful with making new items, you need to compare them to "like-items" first.

And for your line about it not being worth a multiplier of 4.16, maybe that happens to be the exact multiplier for that added ability that Paizo wanted to use? Who knows?

Making magic items that do not already exist is completely GM fiat territory.

When you have 3 items that follow the pricing suggestion and a fourth that has a wildly different price, there should be a reason for that difference.

If the powers of the Bead of healing are split in three different beads and we follow the same pricing suggestions used with the other beads we pay 6.480 gp even without the 20% discount and we get to cast 3 different spells instead of only having access to one of them.

As the item is slotless there is no advantage in using the single bead.
I fail to see the reasoning behind the price.

I know it's pointless bringing this back to life but I can't help but be bugged by that maths going unchallenged. 3*5*2*1.800=54.000, that /5=10.800. You're getting the item at a discount value.
