Bane ability

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

When i have a weapon with "bane (x)" and i am facing an opponenr y or z do i feel my bane isn't working?

How about an inquisitor's ability?

For example: human diguises himself as elf, inq uses bane (elf).

I don't know if there's a hard rule for how it works, but I would at least allow the player to tell they aren't wounding them as effectively as they'd expect. I would require some kind of check to determine the reason (perception for disguise with maybe a bonus after the first swing, not sure about other ways)

During combat?

I would allow a "heal" afterwards, but not *during* combat. With all the moving, the full-rounding and the armor refitting, you couldn't tell how much a man was hit, could you?

"Sometimes damage reduction represents instant healing. Sometimes it represents the creature’s tough hide or body. In either case, other characters can see that conventional attacks won’t work."
Just as players are supposed to automatically notice when an enemy is being protected by DR, I think it's reasonable for them to know whether their weapon is magically more powerful than normal or not.

If I were trying to be perfectly fair demigod of a GM I like to envision myself to be, I would actually roll those things in secret because honestly you don't know. The bane quality works regardless of disguises or polymorph effects. Depending on the campaign it *could* potentially reveal things you don't want it to.
