I was just wondering what exactly counted as an attack, specifically in reference to the Bastion of Good ability of the Sacred Shield. It seems obvious that any melee or ranged attack would count, but what about spells, breath weapons, or maybe even combat maneuvers. Might there be a difference between a spell that has an attack roll, like shocking grasp, vs one that doesn't, like burning hands? Spells are called "magical attacks" in many places.

Thanks for any insight anyone could give, and I apologize if something like this has been covered before. I couldn't really find anything about it elsewhere.

Since it seems like a "magic aura of less damage," I would argue that anything that causes damage is affected by Bastion of Good.

Scarab Sages

The ability seems to be intended to be pretty all encompassing. I would say that if it is doing hit point damage to the party, it should probably be affected by Bastion of Good.
