Sorry if this is in another thread but I didn't see it when i looked.
I Just want some clarification on the rules of the feat. The text for the feat is
Expanded Arcana
Prerequisites: Caster level 1st, see Special.
Benefit: Add one spell from your class’s spell list to your list of spells known. This is in addition to the number of spells normally gained at each new level in your class. You may instead add two spells from your class’s spell list to your list of spells known, but both of these spells must be at least one level lower than the highest level spell you can cast in that class. Once made, these choices cannot be changed.
And the text for sorcerers casting spell is
Spells: A sorcerer casts arcane spells drawn primarily from the sorcerer/wizard spell list presented in Spell Lists. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, a sorcerer must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a sorcerer's spell is 10 + the spell level + the sorcerer's Charisma modifier.
Like other spellcasters, a sorcerer can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Sorcerer. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Charisma score (see Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells).
There for a sorcerer with lets say a CHA score of 16 gets 3 bonus spells(1 first lvl, 1 second lvl & 1 third lvl spell) per day. They can also cast up to a 6th lvl spell. Though they do not have the spell slots to cast one that high nor does he normally know a spell that high, it is still the highest spell lvl that this sorcerer can cast. So with that said he could with the expanded arcana feat acquire 1 6th lvl spell though he still wouldn't be able to cast it for some time or 2 spells of 5th or lower lvl, such as 2 second lvl spells that he could cast because of his bonus spell.
If this is not so please let me know as well as why it does not work, Thank you

You can't get spells that you can't cast already.
If you are a 6th level sorcerer, and you get this feat.
You have the following and only the following choices.
1. You can gain an extra 3rd level spell known.
2. You can gain two spells of levels 0-2.
The feat adds to your spells known. You can't "know" spells you're not capable of casting due to either class or level.

Ok thank. Though from what you said that still means I could still do it at first level as he could cast a third level spell already through his bonus spells from a high CHA, he just doesn't know any without this feat.
No he can't. Bonus spells don't kick in until your class level progresses to the point where you can cast them normally. At first level, only your first level bonuses apply. Also Charisma only gives you bonus SLOTS to cast your known spells, not actual extra spells the way Int does for a Wizard at first level.

One important thing to keep in mind when it comes to this it that there is not only a stat requirement to casting a spell. There is also a caster level requirement to each spell based on the particular spell casting class you are playing. For a sorcerer, he requires a CL of 1 for 1st- and 0th-level spells and a CL of 2 * Spell Level for all other spells up to level 9 on his spell list. If you are ever unsure what the CL requirement is, look at what level a character class gains spell slots of that spell level. Whatever the class's CL is at that level, and it is usually equal to the level, that is the required CL.
