Conversion from 4e to Pathfinder

Conversions

Greetings everyone!

It's my first post on these boards, and i'm looking for some advice :)

A long long time ago, I used to Dm a nice campaign in D&D 4e (please don't start an edition flame war here, that's not the point), and we haven't played in a very long while.

I've decided I want to pick that game up again, but this time, I'd like to convert it to Pathfinder (which as of now, we are all more comfortable with).

But here's the thing, I can convert npcs, monsters, items, all that very easily, but I do have some problems with the PCs classes.

Here is what my party looked like in 4e

Human Thief
Human Ardent
Tiefling Wizard
Tiefling Warlock (Infernal pact)

Now thief will go rogue, that's pretty easy. Wizard will most likely stay wizard. Now the ardent gets a little more complicated (psionic healer for those who don't know), but I think we've settled to having him switch Paladin.

My biggest concern is the Warlock...

She's a very important character in the story, and I'd like her character to stay as close as possible to what she was in 4e.

I also want her to be different from the wizard (in 4e, these 2 classes have different roles)

Additionally, do you guys think a single paladin has enough healing to support a group like that?

Hope you guys can give me some advice! My players have waited a long time for the chance to play in this game again :)

Thanks in advance!

Make a magus... If you want to DM fiat, make the magus cast off charisma and unprepared.

Good luck with the revamp! My suggestions:

1) paladin for the ardent sounds like a good choice; the healing power's not the same, but keeping in mind things like wands and potions are more common by default, it shouldn't be too bad.

2) for the tiefling, going with tie fling sorcerer with the infernal pact will give you the blasting power, combined with the right flavor. He won't be as good as the warlock class is ( in pathfinder, there really isn't a pure blaster Mage class) but he will be able to do a lot of destruction with an infernal flair. Also, adamant entertainment released a pretty faithful port of the warlock to pathfinder;

Since you are the dm, you could see if this would work and tweak according and offer to the player.

Thanks for the replies!

I've read the warlock, but I would prefer to stick with paizo pathfinder (and not 'pathfinder compatible')

I've thought about sorcerer as first choice for warlock of course, my only problem is it would make her and the wizard very much alike, and they have a strange relationship in my game, and this makes it a little weird

(Wizard is "pure and innocent" in my game, and warlock is "almost evil", and they fell in love, and now the wizard is drawn to the "almost evil" side, and loves the warlock power, tries to be like her, etc.)

I just don't like that they have the same spells available :(

I've been thinking about having the sorcerer cast with the words of power from ultimate magic to make it a little different, whats your thoughts about that?

As for the Magus suggestion, well, fighting in melee really doesnt fit for that character, im sorry :p (played a magus myself in a PF game and loved it though!)

And you're right about healing, I keep forgetting about wands! It really is something I have to get accustomed to I guess if I want to dm in PF :)

The flavor of the witch is very similar to that of the warlock in 4e, although the mechanics are very different. A blaster witch is possible, although a little less functional than a blaster sorc, but a single level of tatooed sorcerer with the orc bloodline would help by giving a boost to evocation spells and a bonus to damage. Could be very fun.

Change the warlock to an oracle maybe? Its not a perfect fit, but it would be suitably different from the wizard. You would lose some things in the transition but its worth thinking about.
