ive been wondering combat range...directed at one person can I use all of them on 1 target....i know i lose the ranged part other availble targets, but can i use it all on one target....ie a scorching ray...
Close Range (Ex): The magus can deliver ray spells that feature a ranged touch attack as melee touch spells. He can use a ranged touch attack spell that targets more than one creature (such as scorching ray), but he makes only one melee touch attack to deliver one of these ranged touch effects; additional ranged touch attacks from that spell are wasted and have no effect. These spells can be used with the spellstrike class feature.
alright...so if i focus my rays onto target hit by spell strike roll too hit for each ray or is it just 1 ray wasting the spell...ie why would I ever spell strike scorching ray?

as I read it since scorching ray requires an attack roll for each ray even if they target the same enemy then you only get one ray for 4d6 damage...and you don't roll to hit with the ray it hits with the spellstrike (that's why you get the free attack with it)
My guess is whoever was actually writing that into the book didn't know spells well and just used "scorching ray" as an example since it was the first ray spell they thought of (or looked up)
I have never played a magus myself so if anyone else has any wisdom to offer please be my guest to correct me if I am indeed wrong :)
