Can a World Walker use Boots of Friendly Terrain?

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

In the Advanced Player's Guide and in Ultimate Equipment, the description for Boots of Friendly Terrain states:

Quote:
Each pair of these supple leather boots corresponds to a specific sort of environment as defined by the ranger's favored terrain class feature (jungle, plains, and so on). A ranger wearing the boots can treat the corresponding environment of the boots as one of his favored terrains, granting him a +2 bonus.

In Ultimate Combat, the description of the world walker druid archetype states:

Quote:
At 3rd level, the world walker gains the ranger's favored terrain ability. She treats her druid level as her ranger level for this ability. If she has levels in both classes, both class's levels stack for determining the effect of this ability.

It comes down to your (or your GMs) intepretation of how the usage restriction is meant to be applied. If they're saying it's restricted by class (as is suggested by the word Ranger), then by RAW a Worldwalker could not use them. If however you assume that the restriction comes from the fact that it only works if you have access to Favoured Terrain, which is normally just for Rangers, then I'd say yes, it does work for the World Walker. In the end it's a call on interpretation of the intent.

Personally I'd be ruling that a world walker could use the boots as soon as she had access to favoured terrain at 3rd level. But, YMMV with other GMs.

When Advanced Player's Guide was written, there was no reason for Paizo to differentiate between the class and the ability. Later, Ultimate Combat made the distinction necessary. Later still, Ultimate Equipment continued to refer to the class, but that could be due more to cutting and pasting than to intent to disallow world walkers from using the boots.

My GM agreed with you, Tinkergoth.
