Help in creating an artifact

Homebrew and House Rules

Hey there
Me and a couple of friends just recently started playing pathfinder and i'm the GM.
I added a very important amulet in the game ,that will be a major plot point in the rest of the game.
I want to use the amulet to eventually take the players into other planes of existence, but that is for later.
I need help with some general ideas on what the amulet should do from a mechanical point of view( not the lore part).
So far i have :
Once worn it enters under the flesh of the player and the whole party will occasionally have a common dream that will lead them along the story.
I do not want the players to be able top remove the amulet before it has served it's purpose.
I want ti to provide interesting things to the whole party, but nothing game breaking.

I'm not very familiar on how to create these items so if you have any general advice on what kinds of bonuses/minuses it should have i will appreciate it greatly.

First place I'd look is here.

As a long-time GM, I've made a few artifacts and basically it's up to you with how powerful you want it to be, it could grow with the characters, it could be unlocked with certain magical means or keys, or it could be sentient. It all depends on your story and what you want it to be about and how you want this particular artifact to interact in your world. You can do pretty much whatever you want with it as that is well within your rights as the GM.
