Is Final Embrace self-sustaining?

The feat Final Embrace has a requisite of having the special attack "constrict". It also GRANTS the special attack "constrict". Does this mean that an Eidolon who has the Constrict evolution can take the feat, then when it evolves, lose the evolution but keep the feat active because it gives the Eidolon its own requisite?

I don't think there's a GM in the world who would buy that one :)

There's no rule I know of for feats providing their own prereqs, but I can't imagine checking whether you have a prerequisite to use a feat takes into account the effect of the feat.

In order to gain the benefits of the feat, you need to have the prerequisites. If you don't have the constrict prereq you don't get a constrict ability.
So, no.

Well... That is kinda tricky, because at that point the Eidolon has two sources of that ability...

It does sound a bit off, but flavorwise, it makes sense that whatever has this feat doesn't just forget how to do it, it becomes ingrained into its movements.

Of course, this is why I came here... because technically, the feat gives its own requirements >>;

But it doesn't. Feat isn't 'active' if the prerequisites aren't fulfilled. You have the feat but you cannot 'use' it until the prerequisites are fulfilled.

It's the same as using a magic item that grants you to +2 STR while having an 11 STR, to qualify for Power Attack. You get hit with a dispel and the item is shut down. You lose the abilities/benefits of the feat until you can fulfill the the prerequisites again, most easily by wearing the belt for 24 hours to make it count again.

'Technically' you don't get the constrict benefit from the feat as you never have it active because the prerequisite constrict ability doesn't exist. What you do have is a wasted feat due to the loss of the prerequisite.

X=A+B+C+D

If you don't have C (creature that has constrict), you no longer have X (Final Embrace). Simple logic.

But then, if the prerequisite is the constrict ability, why does it grant another instance of it?

Not all constrict abilities are created 'equal', read the feat benefit and the particular constrict ability you are comparing.

You don't get to keep using the feat, but your eidolon gets a lifetime supple of gouda.

Ah! I see, the evolution only does damage to creatures on the turn it grapples, but not on successive checks...

Whereas the feats/special attacks deal damage every round...

Which makes me wonder, can I even give my Eidolon the Final Embrace? The evolution doesn't explicitly say it grants the special attack, though it seems to be implied it does...
