Strength damage = damage for purposes of Consecrate?

Consecrate causes undead to take "a –1 penalty on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saves."

Does this damage penalty apply to a shadow's touch attack, causing it to drain 1d6-1 strength instead of 1d6? It seems kind of strange but it is a "damage roll".

Interesting. My answer is yes, because ability damage is listed under damage in the combat chapter. It would not, however, apply to ability drain.
