Poison and Natural Weapons

Rules Questions

Are the rules for applying poison to natural weapons any different than applying poison to manufactured weapons?

Meaning, if a contact poison is applied to a claw natural attack, will the creature in question have to make a save against the contact poison?

Shadow Lodge

I believe so. Contact poisons take effect as soon as touched to bare skin, and since there's nothing saying such poisons don't work against creatures with scales, carapace, or other non-skin coverings I don't think the keratin in your claws would be immune.

Adder Strike mentions being able to protect yourself from contact poison applied to an UAS, but I'm not sure how. Maybe specially made gloves?

What about if you have the POison Use class feature?

A contact poison works by ... making contact with a creature. So 'poison use' wouldn't save you from the poison, just from accidentally exposing yourself when applying the contact poison from something other than you. An injury poison could possibly work with natural weapons. Though it would be well within the GMs to make you take the damage if you hit something that does reactive damage too (Bramble armor or some such).

Basically it would be much safer to just limit it to manufactured weapons.

Claw caps could work.

Another thing I'd let someone do in my game is use a binary poison. PC A uses one half on their claws/weapons, and PC B uses the other half of the binary poison on their claws/weapons. The poison doesn't affect the target until both hit, and after the first hit by both, each subsequent hit does poison.

Claw blades would indeed work for contact poisons, but they are limited to cat folk as far as RAW is concerned.

Binary poisons are an interesting idea but don't exist in the game as far as the rules go (at least as far as I've read).
