Hello there, my name is Rokolith I've been a gamer my whole life. Since we're going to have a tight-knit community that will be around for long stages of development, meaning we will probably spend considerable time waiting for game updates- I thought it would be a good idea if there was a threat we could just chat and get to know each other a bit, and maybe trace that steps that led us here.

When I was small, I played games for fun with my brother and some friends, we moved to Zimbabwe and went without TV and video games for a few years but eventually returned to the states.

When we got back as a present my parents got us an N64 and I played the first game that really blew me away, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. The game has such an awesome atmosphere and is a cool game for a kid of any age. It really showed me what games were capable of.

The next game, and probably the game that means the most to me I experienced in middle school, Suikoden2 for the PS1. It has such an amazing storyline. A heroic tale of a young man who recruits people from all walks of life to join a rebel army to fight for freedom against an oppressive force from his own homeland. It was amazingly polished, deep and had all sorts of systems I had never seen in an RPG before, including a battle map where you controlled soldiers and units in a war simulation. PFO has so much to offer in terms of similarity. I've started my third playthrough of this game and its aged very well, I recommend it even now.

During highschool I played my first MMO, Runescape, which I thought was amazing at the time. Overall Runescape is alot of fun and sends you on interesting adventures with clever puzzles but the combat leaves something to be desired.

At the tail end of highschool I started doing some tabletop roleplaying and joined in the WoW craze. I really really liked that game, mostly for the atmosphere and music. It had so much potential at the start but it squandered it... and well, here we are with a game that may do what I whish WoW would have.

Well I think that's enough about me. I'd like to hear from you guys about you and your history of games. What games have you played that inspired you to back/follow the PFO project?

Hey Rokolith :)

Aeioun was a pathfinder character in a campaign I played with my friends. He was to become an arcane archer, but only got to level 5 as a fighter. He had just found Boccob's blessed spellbook to start some arcane studies.

I've played PnP games from early teens. Rune quest, cyberpunk, shadowrun, D&D, Pathfinder, and some more. And computer games for as long. Baldur's gate is a classic I enjoyed very much and also the final fantasy series. then came the elder scrolls series and WoW.

Mostly I'm a fan D&D and now pathfinder, you could say I'm a fantasy freak. Nowadays I mostly don't play any other types of games than sword and sorcery fantasy.

Good idea. I love books, philosophy, and RPGs. DnD/PFRPG has always been my favorite, as had sword sorcery fantasy. My first novel in 2nd grade was the Hobbit, which set me on my course. I have been playing RPGs for about the last 30 years. My MMO experience started with Underlight, and I was hooked. Since then I have tried a variety of MUDs, and other graphicsal MMOs. I am constantly on the search for an MMO where player interaction means something. Fantasy-wise, I am currently reading the Crippled God, Storm of Swords, and Death's Heretic.

Here's to a great game and community!

Hello all.
I´m from Brazil and have been playing tabletop RPGs since the 80's starting with the Basic D&D and MERP (middle earth roleplaing game). Tried a litle bit of shadowrun, marvel superheroes and many other and stopped playing for a while until the arrival of D&D 3.0 (latelly upgraded to 3.5). So I had a wonderful experience playing with a group of 4 friends, when I created the char that a picked the name I use here in the forum and in most main char I used in MMOs. Daeron (i had to put a lord in front of the name as someone already picked it). He was my most played rpg char, a Dwarven Fighter/ranger.

Then I discovered the MMOs, starting with Lineage 2 in a non-official server (lately in the offical)that had (and still have) a lot of stuff I don't like but I kept playing along. I had good friends and a clan I created and most of time was the leader. Unfortunatelly most of these friends do not play MMOs anymore (some waant to come back one day) and myself I am out of game for a while. I've tried to come back to Lineage 2 when it became free but IMO NCsoft just ruined the fun I could have in the game with the recent changes they did to it. Basically it became boring, repetitive and way too easy to increase in levels. The roleplaying aspect is also negleted in this kind of game. I played Aion too, some friends of my former clan still there, but after some months after launch the game did not catch me and I had many real life issues to take care so I left it.

I was presented to pathfinder about two years ago and acquired several game books, however they still mostly unused as real life issues prevented me of having time and a good group to play (I must fix that soon!). I discovered PFO very recently, just few days before the croudfunding was closed and decided to contribute, as the general idea they intend to implement in this game looks like just the kind of game I wanted to play all my life but never found a MMO that fullfilled my needs. In the right time I may find some good guild to join or, who knows, if my friends like the idea, we could re-open my old clan and join the game as well. We will see how it may work in the future.

@Rokolith, I think one of the reasons you're not getting a lot of traction with this is that it's really the kind of thing that works better in a guild forum, where the posters have closer bonds. At any rate, I'm glad to see you got a few hits at least :)

Greetings from the lands of the Ulfen (well, scandinavia at least),

I've read fantasy books since I learned to read (but especially since I learned English) and played computer RPGs since Kings Quest 1 or so. I've tried many RPG systems in the last 25 years (AD&D, MERP, Palladium system, Twilight2000, Neotech, Paranoia, TOONS and several i can't even remember the names of), but don't have a group (or time for one) where I live now. I have tried various MMOs and discovered that I've over time turned from achiever/explorer and into a social gamer.

book recommendation: the Mongoliad

Hello Rokolith! Welcome! I am Aven (alias is Drewber). I have always been into video games since I was a kid. It really didn't start to kick in though until I got a PS2 on one of my birthdays. Thats when I got into RPGs thanks to Kingdom Hearts, FFX, Champions of Norrath, Baulders Gate, Dark Cloud, ect. Then this generation came out with even more great RPGs (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Dark Souls, ect). I have always been into the fantasy and sci-fi genres (probably thanks to me being a huge comic book geek). When it comes to MMOs, the only really MMO I have been "addicted" to is GW2. I jumped on WoW a little late (when WotLK came out) and was not satisfied. I tried other numerous MMOs but none of them could keep my attention longer than a couple of weeks. Sandbox MMOs really intrigue me however, and I actually have never tried a sandbox MMO before. All of the ones I have tried were theme park. I found out about Pathfinder at my local comic shop (they sell tabletop RPGs) and found the art really intriguing (Wayne Reynolds is an amazing artist). So I looked into it more and read up on lore and such. I really enjoy the lore. I'm not really into tabletop RPGs though. I tried DnD and thought it was meh. Just not my cup o' tea. PFO sounds amazing and hopefully the guys at GW will pull through for everyone. Can't wait!

Greetings everyone, hello Rokolith

i started my gaming career about 20 years ago with AD&D (oh how i loved dragonlance) and the german RPG The dark eye.
Over time i tried some other RPG`s (shadowrun, gurps, oWOD and 3.5.) and read even more of them.

At the moment I dm an eberron-pathfinder-campagne and play Werewolf: Paria.

I read a lot, until a few years ago that 'lot' would have meant 'many books and some comics'.
But nowadays it consists mostly of internet stuff and comic books, i`m still figuring out if i`m ok with this development.

I haven`t done much online gaming so far, the most being two years of DnD-online.
I`m slowly starting with a bit of eve for practice reasons, and that`s about it.

Oh, I`ve been a major DoctorWho-fanboy, ever since i first saw the 8th doctor back in the eighties.

This geek is happy to be here and looks forward to gaming with you lot.
for the curious: the name is pronounced something like this:
get-e-"ch"-te + we-"ch"-te
- where "ch" is pronounced like the - h - in huge and the "te" is pronounced like -Tea without the e
and it would translate to 'Poemgnome'

I prefer gastrognomes personally tho metrognomes are often timely.

Singularly unenlightening.

And I pride myself on having a facility with languages :)

I'm from Georgia (the state, not the country). I first got started on gaming in general at a very young age with the Atari 2600. When I was three years old, we got a Commodore 128, and I was not only allowed, but encouraged to use it, and I played a lot of games on there. We had most of the Nintendo systems growing up, and I got a PS2 when they came out. I was always a bit more of a PC gamer, though I did play some console games, particularly Nintendo and Playstation, occasionally Sega systems at the houses of friends and relatives.

As far as online gaming specifically, I got started when I was 11 with MUDs. I played text-based MUDs for several years, including Gemstone III, Dragon's Gate, and most extensively Dragonrealms, then moved on to MMOs. I've played Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Dark Ages of Camelot, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online, Horizons, Everquest II, City of Heroes after the City of Villains expansion, World of Warcraft, Allods, and Dungeons and Dragons Online. Though it's not a game per se, I also spent a good deal of time on Second Life here and there, and enjoyed the user-created content.

I got really interested in tabletops when I was around 12 years old, but didn't know anyone who played. I used to peruse the game section at Media Play, and I bought AD&D and Werewolf: The Apocalypse books for my own enjoyment. I made characters using said books, but I didn't get the chance to play until college, when a friend of a friend said she knew someone looking for additional players in his D&D 3.0 game, and I enthusiastically joined. Since then, I've played D&D 3.0 and 3.5, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Vampire: The Masquerade, mixed old World of Darkness campaigns, Ironclaw, Call of Cthulhu, GURPS, and Pathfinder.

I can't wait to see what they come up with for Pathfinder Online. I'm a fan of the tabletop, and have been itching to see an original MMO for awhile now. The setting itself is already appealing thanks to my love of the tabletop. I don't want another WoW clone. I want to see a game that emphasizes role-playing, has an innovative leveling system, and doesn't require me to grind and slave my life away with a large guild to get anywhere. I never was much of a raider. I'm a role-player, an explorer, a crafter, and I enjoy player-created content. A little pvp can be fun as well, but not that arena crap. Some of the most enjoyable pvp I experienced was open-world.

Sounds like PFO might deliver more what I'm looking for. I certainly have some high hopes based on what I've read so far, and I'm impressed by the previous work of the people involved in creating it.

From Washington State here, been gaming since I got my first nintendo. I enjoyed reading fantasy, got into all the staples of fantasy gaming from there. Currently playing WoW (for RP primarily) and a few single player games while I await PFO and Arche Age.

As for Randomwalkers mention of The Mongoliad, I would agree. I fence with one of the writers of that series. Fun stuff :D

I started in on video games with the Atari, with classics like Pac-Man and Crystal Castles. I got an NES and enjoyed classics like the first Legend of Zelda game. Upgraded to Sega Genesis where I discovered my love for RPGs with Shining Force. Got into computer gaming in the mid-90's with the TSR published Stronghold game. Around the same time I started getting into board games. First was Key to the Kingdom, and then for Christmas one year my father bought me both Hero Quest and Dragon Strike, which I played until the pieces broke. Seeing how much I enjoyed these, he bought me the TSR AD&D box set that came with the audio CD. I can't remember what it's called, but I can recreate the first adventure from memory, that's how much I enjoyed it.

After that early foray into DnD, I started buying whatever DnD products I could find at the local hobby store, which was a Hobby Town USA, so there wasn't much selection. I ended up buying an amalgam of different things, from a Birthright adventure written by Wolfgang Bauer, to a Greyhawk supplement, to some crazy campaign setting that was entirely set in a single city, though I can't remember the name. I started playing DnD computer games, as well, like the first Baldur's Gate games, including the console versions, and the Ruins of Myth Drannor game.

I got to know Paizo through my subscriptions to Dungeon and Dragon magazines, which I acquired after many months of buying the magazines off the shelf. I don't think Paizo published them when I started buying them, but maybe I'm wrong. I also started ordering and collecting Forgotten Realms paperback novels, like RA Salvatore and the series on the Harpers, as well as a few hard backs written by Ed Greenwood.

My first real gaming group that stayed together more than a few fragmented sessions featured the Shackled City Adventure Path, first played through Dungeon magazine, and then through the purchased hardback copy of the campaign. We have since played Savage Tide, Rise of the Runelords, Jade Regent, Serpent's Skull, Carrion Crown, Curse of the Crimson Throne, a little bit of Kingmaker, and a little bit of Legacy of Fire. And a few sessions into Second Darkness.

As far as MMO experience, my first real MMO that I committed to was DDO, which I played until the gameplay stopped resembling my favorite PnP RPG. Apparently my rogue I rolled up at release with a 12 Con and a higher Int than Dex for roleplaying didn't cut it in the end game, and people started getting rude about it. Which is a shame, as I really liked DDO. I tried WoW, but hate it. I played a bit of EVE, but find it boring. I messed around a little with LotR Online, but never really got into the game. I played the original Star Wars MMO before they reworked it and ruined it, and then thought I'd love the new Old Republic MMO, but it's just a WoW clone, so I almost immediately stopped playing. I am currently playing Guild Wars 2, as I liked not having to pay after I bought the game, since I'll go three months without playing, then have a single week of frenzy play as I remember how much I like it before I burn myself out again.

As far as PnP games go, if anyone cares, I prefer Pathfinder to any other system as I think it best embodies the DnD I grew up with and am repeatedly impressed with the quality of the books and material that Paizo puts out. My group did play for about a year in 4th edition, and we did have a good time, but once we tried Pathfinder, even the guys who said they'd not play anything except DnD, were begging to switch completely over to Pathfinder. I still call Pathfinder DnD, though, and would have trouble thinking of it anything except DnD. I don't know if that's offensive to Paizo or not. I tell my wife on Sunday's that I'm leaving to go to my DnD group, I tell others that I play DnD still, I have a DnD budget every month I set myself, etc.

I've been playing RPGs for nearly 35 years, starting with DnD in the late 70's. Went to GenCon 18 and met most if not all of the Dragonlance people, even had dinner with all of the....sat next to Doulas Niles and Tracy Hickman.... I was in teenage Nerd Heaven. Then I met Gary Gygax, and while he gave s speech, sat next to his daughter and was invited to another TSR star studded dinner.

My computer gaming came about a decade later, and spent most of my time with sailing / pirate simulations, like High Seas Trader and later Cutthroats and Sea Dogs. Sea Dogs introduced me to online forums and my first forum based gaming group, The Fraternity of Independent Sea Tyrants. This gaming group lasted for 6 years and we brought it to numerous MMOs, with slight modifications to names ( Sea became Space, etc).

My MMO experience started with Earth & Beyond. Then we went to SWG, WOW, EVE, COH, PotBS, AOC, FE, AO, STO, SWTOR, TSW, WOWP, MWO, WT and soon PFO. I've beta tested most of these, and a dozen or more other titles I can barely remember.

What drew my attention to PFO is the fact that it is a sandbox MMO. After my years with, SWG and over 8 years with EvE Online, the prospect of having a fantasy based sandbox MMO is very exciting.

Started with Atari, which my younger sister threw down a stair well in a fit of jealousy "I would not let her play", since then have had most consoles out there. Started PnP 20 years ago, I have played old dnd, Adnd, Rift, world of darkness, Alternity, Shadowrun, and Pathfinder. Found a Mud in high school named Legends of Teris and fell in love with online gaming, the Main MMO's that i have play was EQ, EQ2, EVE, DDO, Runes of Magic, WoW,Rifts, and many others that i did not stick with for long enough to mention. For PC games I generally played RPGS and strategy either turn based or real time, though my fav is the Total war series. Besides for that I read lots of different fiction and history, philosophy. Of late I have stopped playing MMO's mostly because they have become not much more that a walk in that park, and all the parks seem very similar, and this is the first game I have had much hope for in a long while.

I'm Being, known by several other names (notably Tibs). I started as a voracious reader who read everything our local library had that was remotely adventurous, then discovered D&D and AD&D, played and collected Avalon Hill military board games, through Dragon magazine found White Wolf, which at that time was focused on play-by-mail gaming. Not counting Pong and Asteroids, I first got into computer gaming on a friend's Commodore 128 and Bard's Tale II. I was in a rural area but was so taken with the computer I bought a Tandy Color Computer II and taught myself GW-Basic. Using that I programmed my first game which was a text-based (with sound!) game very much like Steve Jackson's Car Wars. Since the area I was in was off the net I then picked up a '286 with a real disk drive so I could get away from the sequential read data of the old cassette tape storage I was limited to on the CoCo and programmed what would now be called an RTS play-by-mail simulation of Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa circa AD 1000 that I called 'Baron' (still have the copyrights to that one. Brought it to beta with almost 200 testers, one of whom was in Sweden. Marital troubles led to the suspension of that project (I did not want to lose all my work to the divorce, sadly). I console myself that it would have taken more time to stuff turn results into envelopes and mail them out than I had in a work week, plus the time it would have taken to get paper results to my tester in Sweden and get his turn orders back made the medium unworkable. I was just a couple of years too early for the internet to reach my area. After the divorce I had to generate more income than I could get in Western Carolina (child support) so I relocated to California. Took a position teaching computer science, then started working for the federal government. I was into BBS gaming in California and gradually the internet blossomed to life. A brief time with Meridian 59, then Everquest, then an avalanch of other online games, many of which I beta tested have filled my hours since. I am also active in oil painting, poetry, short story writing, music composition, and I have 70,000 words of a science fiction novel currently occupying my non-work productivity. I should be finished in about 20,000 more words, and have already arranged for professional editing from a newspaper man of my acquaintance. I intend to e-publish on Kindle, possibly nook and e-pub formats as well sometime later this year (2013).
I currently reside in Philadelphia.
