Crafting Constructs?

I am bit confused with crafting constructs, part of it is that they seem not to follow normal magic item crafting rules in places.

Skill: So I was reading Ultimate Magic and the Crafting Constructs section mention that the DC matches the same for Magic items DC = 5 + CL of the item, but none (or most) of the Constructs actually follow that in the construction rules. For example Wood Golem says CL 7th so the DC should be 12, but the Skill section says Craft (carpentry) DC 17, which does not actually match the rules. What is with this?

Also on Skills it seems that you have to have the skill and you can't use spellcraft in it's place like all the other magic items.

Another issue is with Magic items you can ignore any requirement by adding +5 to the DC except the Item Creation Feat, but for Constructs you Also can't ignore the CL of the construct, which is different from the normal rules for magic item creation.

Am I missing something? particularly with the skill requirements.

I will have to take a deeper look but has all things magical item, including constructs, the rules the put out for is a guideline. This also applies to monster creation which this is a double wamy. There is some art to all this.

Has far as skill checks for the construction of construct bodies, I believe out sourcing is within the rules (aka hiring Bob the expert carpenter to make the body for your wood golem).

Scarab Sages

For Golems (and other constructs) there are 2 crafting parts.
The physical body (based off Craft (carpentry, sculpture, etc), and the magical bit (based off a Spellcraft check, which follows the DC 5 + caster level +5 for every prereq you can't meet).

Cool I have not found that, can you point that out with a page number?

it is not specifically spelled out for you... I figure the designers must have thought that it was obvious from reading the construction sections (and it was more obviously spelled out in the 3.5 Monster Manual, but the wording was changed around a bit in the Pathfinder Bestiary and the obvious bits sort of got lost).

Scarab Sages

From the PRD Bestiary:
Construction
A clay golem's body must be sculpted from a single block of clay weighing at least 1,000 pounds, treated with rare oils and powders worth 1,500 gp.

Clay Golem
CL 11th; Price 41,500 gp

Construction
Requirements Craft Construct, animate objects, bless, commune, prayer, resurrection, creator must be caster level 11th; Skill Craft (sculptures) or Craft (pottery) DC 16; Cost 21,500 gp

When you look at the construction you have: Requirements, Skill and Cost.
The Requirements are the magical crafting part.
The Skill is which crafting skill is required to make the golem's body.
The Cost is the combined value of the enchantments and the materials for the golem.

Spellcraft DC to creat is: 5 + 11 = 16.
+5 for everyspell that you don't have available (so for a wizard to make a clay golem the Spellcraft DC is 41!)

You could have a potter or sculpture do that actual body (DCs as listed) but you would probably have to pay them to do the work.
