Actually I hate the cliche "play only to the races strengths" parties. I'll take a party of a construct bard, halfling buccaneer, half-orc cleric and dwarf wizard over a party of dwarf fighter, halfling rogue, elf ranger, and human cleric anyday...

A well role-played group can make anything work well and kudos to them if they break from traditional tolkien roles.
