Pathfinder Modern?

Liberty's Edge

Its been great how Pathfinder has really revived the 3.5 DnD rules but one thing I was curious about was seeing how Paizo would tackle D20 Modern. I know some third party companies have stepped up to the plate, but what would be some good ways that Paizo might "pathfinderize" d20 in a modern setting.

The orginal d20 modern had some good but poorly implemented ideas, like talent trees, what do you think?

I would be curious as well.

I have looked at the revised modern for PFRPG and it uses the bulk of the old modern rules.

Spycraft and True20 were also based on D20, but not D20 Modern.

Silver Crusade

If only we could clone the Paizonians and have the new batch work on a Sci-Fi Pathfinder.

@Winter_Born That sounds great. I'd love to see them on that. Star Wars Saga was a great system. If they could take that system, strip out the star wars product identity, that would be awesome.

Grand Lodge

Wait until they see how Reign of Winter is received. If you are not concerned about spoilers, check the Rasputin Must Die issue of the Adventure Path to see... It is not Pathfinder Modern, but is a step.

I would be interested as well. Do you have a link to the KS when it goes live or under what name can we look for it?

Basically, there are plenty of people curious about it (go ahead and search for pathfinder modern) on the forums and you'll see ALOT of posts. But the reality is we wont see it from paizo in the forseable future or probably at all. In discussion Paizo brass in particular Lisa (CEO) has explained that she wouldnt do another version of pathfinder (modern, space opera, western etc) without fully supporting it with adventures and other supplemental material. Paizo's operating model isnt like that of predecessors. Rulebooks are not their primary source of income. They are a means to adventures and campaign material.

That means that they would essentially be doubling the amount of products they would be targeting month to month. And they dont have the people to do that. Lisa also isnt interested in expanding her staff to the point where she could, particuarly when there is no guarantee a modern pathfinder would be as successful as fantasy pathfinder is.

So there you have it, basically the answer is not likely any time soon, and if it happens it would have to be because something Lisa really wanted came along (like getting the star wars liscense) or if economics demand they change their operating model (which given they are the number one rpg in the market isnt really likely at the moment).

Hello everyone we just launched this Kickstarter today. The link is below and it would be helpful to take a look and pass the word on to anyone else who might be interested.

One of the greatest things about Pathfinder is that the entire rule set is available free via the PRD. That means that I can have players in my game without requiring them to buy the $50 (or even $10) core rulebook. This wasn't even true of D&D/3e or 3.5e... the experience rules were missing. As such, Pathfinder has been a better game for me to use, and has resulted in my making more monetary investment than I ever did with 3e or 3.5e. Of course, some end up doing so... and I've purchased hundreds of dollars of Paizo stuff now myself as a result of getting sucked into Pathfinder. Without the ability to get a group going thanks to the PRD, however, I might never have been sucked into it in the first place.

As such, I have to ask: are you planning on releasing the full "Pathfinder Modern" (or whatever you call it) rule set under the OGL? I'm not talking about setting information, but the rules, just as has been done with the PRD. My hope would be for there to be enough so that (a) players could join a game and get the rules they need from the PRD, and (b) others might be able to write and release supplements under the OGL that fully built on your rules set (not just the stuff that must already be OGL because you got it from Pathfinder).

(Note that I would expect to purchase the game myself anyway-- certainly if I ended up playing it. That's what I did with Pathfinder; I got started with the PRD, and liked it enough that I started buying it.)

There's also a system called the "Modern Path" by GRC which you can look at in this link here It has a sourcebook and several supplements even Herolab support.

In other words, that wheel HAS been invented.
