Sahuagin Anyone else like using them in your games

Liberty's Edge

I'm running a Rise of The Runelords campaign and have decided to take a break from the modules. Running my own adventures. One of the suggestions in the AP is for the party to run across some Reefclaws. Problem is with many aquatic creatures in the game is great swimming speed poor land speed. Once players reach dry land most aquatic creatures imo just can't keep up with most adventuring parties.

I came across the Sahuagin in the Bestiary and my first thought was why did I not use these creatures before. Or more often. Decent land speed. Pretty good swimming speed. Good attributes and HP as well as a decent AC. Use both melee and ranged weapons as well as having access to divine magic. 0.I like their ability to Blood Frenzy and they can speak with sharks. I'm surprised no developers have ever used them as the main villans in a rpg setting. Would love to see Paizo do a AP centered around the Sahuagin. Or at the very least they play a big part. Anyone else like using them

Sahuagin are awesome, if only because the first D&D mini released for them is absolutely amazing. I use them as often as I can get away with.

Sahuagin are one of my favorite aquatic bad guys. They're mean, they're tough, they aren't worthless if the combat gets dragged onto a ship or land, and they're easy to add class levels to.

I love them. I'm using them in a high level campaign right now.

I also had the idea of giving them organic technology since their culture would not have developed fire and metal undersea. If you're familiar with the Yuuzhan Vong from Star Wars RPG I've made Yuuzhan Vong Sahaugin. They wear crab armor that grants DR, weild amphistaffs that are undersea serpents which can become double headed spears and/or whips and deliver poison or shock damage (eel variant), cloaks that grant SR versus arcane spells, thud and razor bugs (guided ranged weapons), blorash jellies (tanglefoot bags), etc. All of which can also be enchanted.

So far my players have enjoyed these unique undersea baddies.

The homebrew LGS campaign I play in has taken our party in and around a lot of rivers and coastal areas lately, where we are either fighting on or around water.

The GM has been using these as sporadic baddies during that time and they become a lot tougher in this type of environment, especially against a party that isn't well-optimized for aquatic or maritime combat.

You might also want to keep an eye out a certain Sunken Pyramid adventure which releases soon :)

In addition to the adventure itself, there is a pretty large appendix which fleshes out sahuagin culture, society, religion and history - kind of linke an "Ecology of" article from Dragon magazine

Hmm not to big of a fan of the first module. Not so much the content so much the way the players get treated. Still may take a look again. Just so that I can use the Sahugin as main villians.

Been thinking along the same lines. The party is going to run across a group of Sahugin armed with a light ballista except made out of coral. A sahugin alchemist with a acid type bomb ability instead of fire. With your permission would like to borrow some of the above ideas.

Thanks for the link. Will keep an eye out for the adventure. Was going to ask if anyone knew of a 3.5 guide and there is: http://www.amazon.ca/The-Slayers-Guide-To-Sahuagin/dp/1903980143 . From Mongoose slayers guide line. Not sure if I want to purcahse it. Some of the slayers guide were hit and miss imo.

Razor Coast also has them. The new pdf sneak peak for the Kickstarter menions sahuagin troops.
