Elemental Upheaval...

Ok gang, my friends are wanting me to run a campaign where they are elemental races, 1 from each of the 4 main elements. Sounds like it could be fun and I have a 1 idea in particular to get it started.

The elements of the world have been acting sporadically, volatile. Tornadoes popping up from nowhere, quakes, fires spontaneously getting out of control, and water doing, well whatever water does when it gets out of whack, snowing in the middle of summer with hot temps.

So that's the basic starting point. And I figure I would go along the lines of a deity from each of the domains seeking out a representative to get to the bottom of things. And though each of the elemental races are reluctant to work alongside each other, the representatives chosen have been so because they understand the severity and haste of the issue at hand. As such, they have set aside any differences for the greater good, as best they can anyway.

With that said, anybody have some ideas or know what sources I can use to fill out this campaign??

Some ideas:

1. Dragons and/or genies need to be involved in some way. Genies are the most common ancestors for the elemental races, dragons are always fun, and both have a number of flavorful conflicts and quirks that could give you ideas, such as the ongoing war between Efreets and their Azer subject on the Plane of Fire.

2. A Fetchling would make a good NPC, since they naturally assume roles as liaisons between the people of different planes and have their fingers in every pie, so to speak.

3. Every day you could roll to have the world become fire, water, air, or earth/dominant, using the Planer Adventure rules presented in the GM's guide to give you ideas. Magic would be weakened or strengthened, gravity might go out of whack, and the landscape might be easily manipulated by people with the right attunements.

Water could be flooding, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc.

I agree with Big Lemon on Dragons and Genies. The Ifrit, Sylph, Oread and Undine are natural choices for the races.

Yeah, character creation night was last night. Those were the 4 races they had in mind when they were talking about the campaign a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the input, I've also thought of a few ways to go from here as well.
