Blind Magus prestige / archtype

Homebrew and House Rules

Howdy folks

Recently in my current game, our resident Magus managed to get his eyeballs blown out by a particularly nasty lich. Now the player is looking at a few options for continuing despite his lack of sight.

So far our options come down to

1: Install an evil artifact the party has gotten their hands on and using UMD to trick it into working with him.( I made another thread regarding this possibility)

or 2: Work out a prestige or arch type type solution , Currently he is a lvl 10 black blade magus, which he does share senses with though that, so he was looking at something that would increase the strength of the bond between them and rely on the sword completely for his senses, which I thought would be an interesting opportunity, As such, I figured I'd pop on here and get some thoughts/ideas on the concept. Naturally the player could just get a scroll or whatnot to restore his eyes eventually, but I do much prefer the roleplaying aspects of doing it this way.

If the game is operating at that high a level of power, the group should be looking into clerical solutions a la Regeneration.

Using the sword to sense surroundings is going to rely on carrying it unsheathed and in hand all the time, which can be a problem.

well it's not exactly high power, I mean the Blindness/Deafness spell is only a second level spell, I may have flavoured it up a bit more than normal lol, the effect is still the same though

perhaps your right though, still seems like a waste of a good opportunity , I'll work something up, thanks anyway

You could give him a supernatural vision sense that extends to only 30ft via a magic item or feat tax. Having it be some kind of metal sense would be appropriate.

He can't discern color, and can only determine position with this ability. In other words, he can tell there is a person standing 10ft away from him holding a sword and shield and how they are holding it, but softer tissues, such as leather or skin, register only as vague shapes, and he would have to rely on sound to determine other details. He wouldn't know if the person was wearing leather armor or linens, or if it was his friend walking up to him or an enemy trying to sneak up, but he should be able to figure that out with sound. On the upside, this ability is completely unaffected by light level

In battle, he would be able to hear all of the voices and be able to tell who was where. Things like teleportation would mess him up. If someone walks out of his 30ft range, he could tell their general position based on the sounds they make, but they would have total concealment from him, as blindness normally causes.

Is he by any chance a Kensai? That's probably the best class archetype a character could be for this ability short of being a monk.

Cast remove blindness on him. He might not get his eyes back, but it should cure him of his affliction just the same.

If he wants his actual eyes back, get him a scroll of regeneration, though I hear that itches a lot.

Does he specifically want to continue AS a blind person because he thinks it will be fun, or does he just want to keep his character and get his eyes back?

Note: Not sure if this would actually work, just an idea.

If someone has craft construct feat, create 2 eye sized orbs, making them tiny animated objects then add the crafter's eye modification to each of them and place them inside the eye sockets. You should now be able to see through these new construct eyes. Heck, you may be able to take them out and peek around corners; I haven't actually tried this, like I said, just an idea.

Of course all of this and if it would work would be up to the DM, but it would probably cost around 16,250gp (if I'm reading this right.) 8,125gp for each eye. Not to mention some one with all of the necessary feats.

Either way good luck.

An NPC could make that item if the PCs went on a quest for materials X and Y. It might be amusing for the player to have to deal with blindness for a little while, and from the experience be might gain some bonus ranks in Perception and/or Blindfight as a bonus feat for his trouble.

Been a while since I flexed my class making muscles...
Alright, if you still want I can cook you up a five level PrC for a blind swordsman. I can make a version more about the bladebond and one more generic blind master.
