[Homebrew] Brimstone Step

Homebrew and House Rules

So I wanted to get some advice for an ability that I'm trying to roll up for my tiefling rogue character. Its called Brimstone Step, it will replace the spell-like ability, and yes I'm totally trying to rip off Nightcrawler. Its sort of based on the Conjurer's Dimensional Steps, but with a few mechanical twists to make it more flavorful as well as reigning in any power creep that having this ability at first level may cause.

Here's what I have so far. Warning, this is my first attempt at homebrewing such a complicated ability, so its kinda wordy and its probably not in the right tones:

Brimstone Step (Sp) As a move action, you can slip magically between spaces up to 20ft per day, as if using the spell dimension door. You must be able to see the space you are moving to. When this ability is used, a burst of brimstone is released into the air as you travel through Hell, filling the space you previously occupied and the space you move to for 1 round. Any creatures without the devil subtype adjacent to either of these spaces must make a dc 15 fortitude check to prevent becoming sickened for 1d4 rounds

At 2nd level, and ever two levels after, the maximum distance of this ability is increased by 5ft. The user is exhausted for 1d4 rounds if this ability is used to move more 10ft in one move action. At 5th level and every 5 levels after, the maximum distance you are able to travel without becoming exhausted is increased by 5ft.

At 4th level, you can bring other creatures with you no larger than one size larger than you, but you must expend an equal amount of distance for each additional creature brought with you. Any creatures brought with you without the devil subtype must make a dc 15 fortitude check to prevent becoming sickened for 1d4 rounds.

Every time you use this ability, you must roll a d100 and a d6. If your rolls total 66, you leave the space you were occupying, but you do not land in the space you were moving to. Instead, your ability fails as you are traveling through Hell, and you and any creatures brought with you become trapped there.

This ability replaces the tiefling's spell-like ability.

A few notes: I purposely changed the wording of Dimensional Steps to allow the user to take any creature with them, willing or unwilling. I just think it adds a little bit of flavor to it.

I really want to have fun with this ability, but I also don't want it to be too powerful, so I added the fun bit about getting trapped in Hell :) I think it adds flavor and a severe mechanical reduction in power. I would want to play the character without metagaming, not knowing that using this power could get me trapped in Hell.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
