Greetings!
I'm playing a wizard (specializing in transmutation) and just reached lv 5. I'm planning on taking Improved Familiar as my next feat when I reach lv 7 and have been planning out my character in PCGen 6.00.0
I'm hoping to get a faerie dragon as my familiar so that I can start playing pranks on my fellow party members/minions (gotta love invisibility and telepathy), but the dragon isn't showing up in the list of improved familiars I can choose from.
My main question is if there's a data file I need to install or, if not, what I need to do. I can build a faerie dragon from scratch, but then it's not tied to my character as a familiar within the program, so it's hp isn't 1/2 of my wizard's and (since this is my first Pathfinder character) I don't know enough to know whether or not I need to adjust anything from the basic faerie dragon sheet.
So, I'm not sure what is best to do. My GM is out of town, and while this won't be an issue for another two levels, I'd like to figure out what to do.
(Also, my dragon would level up with me, so would they get new spells as it levels up? Or is it stuck with the 3rd level spells forever? And if so, would it be able to cast those 3rd lev sorcerer spells at a higher casting levels for the purpose of spell duration etc?)

faerie dragons require you to be within one step of chaotic good alignment. what alignment is your wizard?
it is stuck as a 3rd level sorcerer, but as such you could buy it a ring of wizardry 1, and pages of spell knowledge to increase its spells know and spells per day. and any other magic items it can wear, since it is a dragon it has all normal humanoid item slots. all it will really gain from levels is what is on the chart, but that should also increase the save dc of its breath weapon i think, but that's about it.
@Nylanfs - familiars are normal creatures (or better ones in the case of improved familiars) who are transformed when they become familiars. if you dismiss one for a new familiar they go back to being what they were before (a normal cat/toad/whatever).

The spell duration will be stuck at Level 3 unless you can find magic items that would change this. It is not clear why the familiar can cast greater invisibility. If this is a sorcerer bloodline ability, then it would stay at 3 rounds. If it is a racial ability, then it should increase it's duration as you level up. I am curious about this myself, but you will need to figure it out with your dm.
Faery Dragon is pretty bad ass to begin with, allowing them to level up would be too much.
I am doing the same thing in my game, so I have been looking into that particular familiar quite a bit. You should be able to choose it's available spell list. RAW doesn't discuss this, but as long as they are spells focused on trickery it should be fine. Discuss it first with your DM. I swapped out two spells for ant haul and detect magic. My dragon will be flying the halfling rogue into better positions during combat.
