Serpent's Skull and Poisoners

Advice

I am currently playing through Serpent's Skull with my friends, and I'm wondering, how useful is poison in this AP? I understand at later parts you fight a lot of serpentfolk, but is that all you fight? Right now I'm playing as a turncoat serpentfolk alchemist, and I was going to take a few levels of daggermark poisoner for flavour, but if poison will be useless for half the AP, what's the point? Will I be useless to the party if I do this? I don't care if I'm not super-duper all powerful, as long as I'm not useless. I despise feeling useless.....

Opinions?

Then you probably shouldn't make mechanical decisions (like a prestige class) for flavor reasons.

I don't see any poison related stuff that the Daggermark Poisoner gets that a normal Alchemist can't do already (and sometimes better).

Regardless of whether or not poison is useful in Serpentskull (and I don't know anything about it--you might want to try the Serpent Skull board), I wouldn't take Daggermark Poisoner as an Alchemist.

Then just call yourself a darkmark prisoner and not take levels in it.

Yes, poison is likely to be pretty useless for the majority of the AP after part 1 and 2. And even during certain parts of part 1 and 2.

What is it you want from Daggermark Poisoner besides flavor (flavor can ALWAYS be changed)? You could probably get it from Discoveries.

Eh, nevermind then.

Yeah, looking at it you could probably do just as well and better as a straight Alchemist.

It grants Poison Resistance (you already have this as an Alchemist), and a number of "Poison Tricks" which, as stated, in some cases are identical to Alchemist Discoveries along with a few other frankly terrible (IMO) abilities.

You could easily take Concentrate Poison, Deadly Excretions, Poison Conversion, Sticky Poison, Plague Bomb (flavored as a nasty poison gas) and the Greater version, and the Poison Touch Grand Discovery to be a much better poisoner than that PrC could ever be.

Doesn't change the fact that poison will likely only be useful against 50% of your foes at best, but it's food for thought for a different campaign.

Liberty's Edge

For the record, there aren't *that* many encounters with creatures who are immune to poison until the last two chapters of the Adventure Path, which I think is fairly normal. Poison immunity is disturbingly common among high CR critters.
