Mounted Combat and Attacks of Opp

Rules Questions

Please let us know if we are doing this correctly:

A mounted Cavalier is attacking a Zombie.

On the Zombie's turn, it moves to an adjacent space next to the horse and proceeds to attack.

Will the horse, for being large, get an attack of opp? Will the cav as well?

I don't believe that a horse has reach, but I could be mis-remembering. Unless the cavalier is using a reach weapon (such as a lance), he certainly does NOT have reach.

Horses don't have reach. So no AoO

It is a large creature, why wouldn't it need reach

It doesn't matter where the zombie is moving TO, it matters where the zombie is moving FROM.

If the zombie is moving from a threatened square, then threatening creatures can make an attack of opportunity against it.

If a zombie doesn't exit a threatened square and ends up adjacent to a rider and his mount, they can't do anything about it.

If a zombie starts out in a threatened square (such as adjacent to the horse) and moves to another adjacent (threatened) square, it provokes.

The typical horse doesn't have any more reach than an armed human, but if rider has a Reach weapon, then the zombie would have to exit a threatened square to reach him. One of the classic perks of mounted combatants.

Horses are "large long" and as such get no reach but more importantly unless there's a reason not to 5ft step the zombie shouldn't provoke anyways.
