I have a friend planning to play at 2 conventions in mid to late january, and he doesn't have a character higher than level 2 at the moment. (he also cannot get games regularly because of his work, so he cannot try to level by then)
i had heard that there were supposed to be slightly modified iconics from the npc codex that were going to be used as the new pregens, for level 1 and 7 from codex, and level 4s made at some point. has this happened yet? or is there a timeline? we plan on going to illogicon in about 2 weeks and scarab the week after that. any idea if he will be able to use the codex iconics? or just the normal pregens?

The level 1 and 7 iconics are legal with minor modifications. I have not heard anything on when or if the level 4s are being made.
has that been made official yet though? technically you cannot just wing the modifications, there needs to be some stat blocks available that are already changed, or a description of specifically what to do to change them.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: NPC Codex
The 1st and 7th level iconic characters found on pages 274-297 may be used in place of the downloadable pregenerated characters found on Paizo.com. The 12th level iconics are not permitted for PFS play. The text in the box on page 275 should be noted before using the iconic characters. The animal companions on pages 298-307 may be used as long as the character meets all the prerequisites to obtain an animal companion.
You can't use any feats that aren't PFS legal, though - I believe the only change is to trade out Ezren's "Scribe Scroll" for Spell Focus.
