Rules Questions

Hi, I just got the Pathfinder Core Rulebook for Christmas and trying to navigate the character creation process for the first time. I'm familiar with D&D2 and 3, but I am trying to understand Pathfinder now. If anyone would like to answer questions for me as I go along, that would be awesome. No time crunch at the moment, since I haven't found a playgroup yet.

I started out making a Dwarven fighter. At level 1 he gets a bonus feat (p55,56), which I thought meant "2 feats" for a new level 1 fighter. But I was unsure - does every 1st level character get 1 feat to start? I see that humans also start out with an "extra" feat (p27).

I started poking around the other classes, and couldn't find any that give a "bonus feat" at 1st level except fighters. So does that mean that only fighters and humans get a 1st-level feat?

Thanks for any help.

Every 1st level character gets a feat.

A 1st level fighter gets a bonus fighter feat (which can be chosen from a restricted list).

A human character gets another bonus feat.

So a 1st level dwarven fighter gets 2 feats. 1 for being 1st level, then an extra one for being a first level fighter.

Yep, all first level characters get a feat at level 1.
A Fighter gets a Bonus Feat at level 1, due to being a Fighter.
(This feat is limited to the Combat feats)
A Human gets an Extra Bonus Feat for being Human.

So, a level 1 Human Fighter would have 3 starting feats, one of which must be a combat feat.

See the character advancement chart at the start of the Classes chapter - the one with the XP progression on it. It also lists the feats that all characters get as they go up levels (1 feat every odd-numbered level). Class bonus feats and racial bonus feats are on top of those.

Even though your question was answered, you might find this table useful

Hell actually that whole site is very useful. If I am looking for information fast I find this site easier to use than a book. Books are really nice if you don't have computer space/connection at the game table, or you are playing Pathfinder Society and you need to show your property to a GM, but if I am reading on my own at home the computer is the way to go.

Thank you all. Thanks for also telling me where to find the info in the book. (I like to know that "it's in there" somewhere.)
